Womanist Musings : Roger Ebert Proves Good Hair Was Made For White People

"So how about you trust that we know what the fuck we're talking about? " When you say most white people do/believe x when you're not white then I won't take your word on it. Nor should I.

"You cannot know this if you have never had to deal with it yourself." Technically nobody can know this unless they do a very large poll. Although in terms of ball parking it, I got a better idea of what white people think than black people because I am white and I've experienced more of white society (whatever the fuck that is).

"There are no such rules in place that effect White employees in the same way. " There's regulations against beards and hair dye too. If you want to talk idiotic employee requirements we can go on all day (and past hair as well). "don't tell me that hair is not a political issue in the lives of Black people " And don't tell me that most whites freak out over dreadlocks and afros.

"Uhmmm, I suppose that's why a business school seminar at an HBC felt the need to ban dreadlocks on males and large afros." One school means nothing unless you have evidence it's not an anomaly. "The reality is that natural hairstyles on black people are looked down on and regarded as an automatic radical statement." No, us whites do not care. ". You claim to not know what is meant by whiteness, well, you are exhibiting it right now by invalidating the lives and lived experiances of black people based on your encounters and opinions" How bigoted of you to make up a word called whiteness, prescribe it to white society or something than give it an automatic negative spin with crap descriptions such as that. In my life I've never gotten the impression from anyone that afros and dreadlocks are something to look down on and I've experienced white society in 4 different states. So to tell me that most white people have some deep seeded disgust against them is to me absurd, reeks of blanket statements and very much denies my experiences. Hell by the logic here since I'm a member of white society I should be able to talk more of how they feel than a black person. "The entirety of black experiance that has led many black people to cut, perm, weave their hari or consider ding so when enetering the workforce or looking for another job or even dating is somehow invalidated by the experience of one white person" Sorry I don't buy the ad populum fallacy. Although if you can call on your mythical black hair victims I get to call on the whites I've met (that would be all of them) who do not look down on dreadlocks or afros.

"Um, I think black people who have worn natural hair would probably know more than you about what kind of reactions their hair style gets." I'm talking about whether whites care about them which as a white guy I think I can say I know more about it, according to the logic on display here. Although do go on telling me how I supposedly feel about it. If you had an afro and the white guy next to you on a bus doesn't seem to care are you going to take a note of it? No, but you would if he insulted you for it. And how many is 'some whites' I've never heard political hair style before so my guess is a really freaking low number.

A fine for not speaking English...dude that's unconstitutional trash. Compelled speech being unconstitutional and all. Here's hoping the law gets thrown out sooner rather than later.

"These hysterical women, and their "feelings". Must be objective! Feelings don't matter!" Please don't pretend that her logic can stand up to objective analysis. Any actor/actress in any medium is given a script beforehand and if not they're told what's going to be in the scene before they shoot it. They have an opportunity to opt out, so it's not rape by any stretch.

"White society *does* care about the natural hair of black people" As a member of white society I can say that we don't. "Locks and braids and twists are seen as 'alternative', or messy or unkempt" That's a FAR cry from radical. The same can be said for long hair on a male hippy, and that really isn't radical. Seeing people with dreadlocks barely registers on the white person's 'should I give a damn' meter. If you want a stronger reaction try sporting a Mohawk.

Womanist Musings : A Spark of Wisdom: Polite Prejudice

. Can I be friends with someone who doesn't believe in Universal Health Care, for example? Yes, it's not black and white. Some people think the government would screw it up, some people don't like the idea of being forced to pay for other people's health care, there's the deficit there's a bunch of reasons to be against it that don't involve evil intentions. It's not nearly the same as 'thinking that only the rich should be able to go to the doctor'

What do you mean by the whiteness? Is it a synonym for all whites. If it is than it's really ironic that you're complaining about a white guy talk about black guys (or black hair more specifically) as if he's an expert but yet here you are talking about white people as if you're an expert, yet you're black. Oh and white people do not care about natural hair.

Womanist Musings : I Don’t Believe In PC Speech

"I really have no idea why the US DOESN'T distinguish between hate speech and free speech. They really are not the same and should not be. " Unless you mean hate speech as encouraging violence/crime then that's bullshit. Expressing hatered of something or some is just free expression whether that be a political group or a race.

"In porn, what, you don't? or, it doesn't matter? Bullshit. " Indeed it is BS. As with regular acting you have to tell the actors exactly what they're getting into before they sign on, and the actors/actresses can quit and walk off set at any time. So there's consent.
