Counting stats-wise? I am building in missed time for a DL-stint with some malady. Maybe he doesn't miss any time but I think you have to expect something given the missed time in the last three years. That, and the the profile is stable, but Pedroia possesses league-average power and league-average speed. Pedroia makes the most of his skill set though and really hammers at Fenway, but I think in a 2-hole projection of 80+ RBI and 110 runs scored is a pretty favorable level. Also his hit rate was like 33% so even a few ticks back to the league average of 30% and it would be hard for him to hit .315. He's a stud no matter which way you bet it.

Fire Brand of the American League : 2011 Player Review: JD Drew

On average MLB OFers see 560 PAs per year. Before I start doing any work on this, what threshhold is appropriate to you? Prince Fielder I think was the only guy last year to play all 162 games.

Run Prevention is a function of Wins. WAR is a measurement of wins. JD Drew's contribution to the bottom line in 2008 and 2009 was 4 and 5 wins respectively.

Whew! Feel better? I'm glad you let that all out and sorry that you long for the DirtDog days of Trotman but whether or not you, me, Chip Buck or Wily Mo Pena want to acknowledge it -- defense is a part of production and a large factor in wins. I'm not rubbing my thigh in excitement, but I certaintly am not going to ignore it.

Mostly because I found it amusing that the other two comp'd well against McDonald. That and I don't like him so it makes Drew and Crawford's season that more annoying.

I am in the same boat with respect to his demeanor. It never concerned me. When he was healthy he always ran hard and to me that was the key, not your facial expression after a groundout.

Fire Brand of the American League : 2011 Player Review: Jason Varitek

I think the issue for me here is not that you or Marcos support the team as a whole or prefer to focos on the NOW -- instead of the past. For me it's that I don't understand calling Varitek a piece of shit, trashing him up and down because he's at the end of his career or devaluaing leadership. You agree 100% that he is a piece of shit?

Fire Brand of the American League : Shaughnessy Doesn't Get It

All right people, we got 10 minutes 'till game time, let's all gather 'round. I'm not much for giving inspirational addresses, but I'd just like to point out that every newspaper in the country has picked us to finish last. The local press seems to think that we'd save everyone the time and trouble if we just went out and shot ourselves. Me, I'm for wasting sportswriters' time. So I figured we ought to hang around for a while and see if we can give 'em all a nice big shitburger to eat!

Chip, good stuff. You can never win with CHB because if it were a one-man think tank, he would rip that to shreds and question why there is no lateral accountability in the organization. If we were to revert to the Harrington days it would be it's own storm cloud. He always wins. It's the shtick of all shticks. The only thing that can be done to squelch him is win the championship every single year. If you gave him a old duffle bag with a million bucks inside, he would complain about the duffle bag.

THIS is more of what I was expecting in terms of comments about Varitek. Though I know he should retire, I still will welcome him back because I think his value is still there but just maybe not measurable. The problem is I don't want to see him on the field. Hopefully he makes a quick and willing transition to a coaching role. Not sure how long he'd want off or if he's even ready to hang 'em up.
