Ron Edmondson : 7 Ways Parents Injure a Child -- Without Even Knowing It

Ron, Thank you for your post. I especially resonate with point #2 - Lack of Priorities. Even beyond the busyness and lack of time we give our children from time to time...or if we're painfully honest, more often than not...is also the importance of truly "seeing" them and acknowledging them. This past Sunday, i was in the midst of setting up at church and my son came, saw me, I gave him a quick high five and went about my business. Later I see him a little down trodden talking to my wife. I asked what was going on, and he looked up and said, "all you did was give me a high five and walk away." My son is 7, and in that moment, he definitely felt the task at hand, whatever that may be, was taking priority over him. To change that, I now try and lock eye to eye with him, with a big smile on my face and full hug each and every time. Thats all he needs, he wants to know his dad sees him, cares about him and wants him. He then runs away with a sense of renewed confidence that only I could give at that moment. Its not much different from what we receive form our heavenly Father when we spend time with him. Confidence, identity and security. Wish I didnt mess up so often! :) Great post.

Ron Edmondson : What to Do When You are Lonely in Leadership

I always find great tension between "finding good friends outside the church" vs, what feels like a more idealistic approach, and helping to create the healthy environment within the church. I understand both ides, and have often followed the advice of building my friendships outside the church. However, with that said, I still feel very inclined to follow and idealistic point of view and develop honest and transparent relationships within. Perhaps i haven't been "hurt" enough by a broken trust yet...but then again, I feel that those we serve are more than just our constituents and I more than someone who is "hired" for them. We are family and must learn to find comfort and connection within that family. It's a case of "both, and". Sorry, probably wrote too much, but that whole "you can't have friends within the church" has never sat well with me. :)

Was interesting, last night was listening to 630ched and they had a whole part of their show dedicated to licensed professionals who interpret dreams and the many common dreams we all share. Appreciate the comments Daniel.
Thanks for sharing Jenn. I completely agree that it is indeed very hard to see the positive when our human nature is often to focus on the negative. I trust your "confrontation" ended with grace. :)

Andy Darnell's Mindmap : Simple Church | Chapter 1

Great way to start off this "series". Definitely will be insightful and interesting to read. One question that I have wrestled with throughout this last year is "simply", "does less = simple?" ie can a highly programmed church still be simple? I think the immediate tendency is to start cutting, hacking, etc, etc. Personally my hunch is that less is more, but I don't think that less is necessarily the "solution" that many reach for and pursue as soon as they start reading this book. (I realize this can depend on what area of the church you are talking about, values, mission statements, vs programming, courses, etc) Anyways, just some initial thoughts and questions and our church is still very much in the process of figuring all that out. :) So many opinions on "simple", that its gotten complicated already, lol. :) Thanks for starting the conversation Andy!

Shooting the Breeze : The ministry of presence

Thanks for sharing this Kevin. Such a goodreminder. I often catch myself thinking that I'm "too busy" to eat and drink with people. Hard truth is that as Christians we often think "lord, put someone in my path to lead to Christ insome big emotional moment. Sure. No problem. Just hang out and be friends with people. Sorry, too busy." thanks again for the good reminder.
