The 'Ropolitans : Sore shoulder for Escobar

Let the Omar bashing begin. Even if he misses significant time, Escobar was still a nice risk/reward signing. Here's hoping this is a minor glich because his arm hasn't been used in a while.

The 'Ropolitans : Mets to hold voluntary minicamp

I would sincerely hope that any player that was injured last year would be anxious to get on the field and start proving himself. My biggest concern is pitching, so I really want to see Santana, Niese and Maine pitching with no pain whatsoever. ...and maybe Ollie can fall down a well or something.

The statement that he's been a complete bust is what's weak. That's nonsense and you know it, unless your definition of 'bust' is completely screwed up.

Oh, Failcoeur, will you continue to be the 311/338/498 hitter you were for us after the trade, or will you revert back to 250/282/352 you were with ATL before the trade? Or how about the 239/294/359 you hit for ATL in 2008?

What's wrong with Nieve on a minor league contract. I agree it probably won't be there when he gets back, but he was pitching well enough to give him another shot with a cheap minor league contract. Parnell should in AAA working on his pitches and his location. He's only thrown 5 games in AAA, and I hate rushing guys. Give him some time. I agree with your praise for Feliciano, but I really hate giving multi-year deals to relievers. He's coming off a career year, if you look at the numbers. This year he saw his (full season) career best in: WHIP (1.163), BB/9 (2.7), K/BB (3.28), and of course his 88 appearances. I hate paying for guys after years like that.

The 'Ropolitans : Mets fans will pull for Red Sox and Dodgers

You're right about the Phillies. I'd trade my team of chokers for them in a heartbeat (as long as I could punch Vicky in his douchebag face). How exactly are the Sox and Yanks something to despise? I have my reasons for disliking the Yanks, and I really couldn't care less about the Sox, but I don't despise either. The postseason outcome doesn't really matter much to me when the Mets are out of it, I just want to see thrilling baseball like we got from Minnesota and Detroit last night. It would be icing on the cake if the Phils and Yanks lost, and another NL team won it all, but we'll just have to see what happens.

This is a damage control smoke-screen so they can make us think they'll be contending next year so they can sell tickets. I for one am not buying it. I'm not driving 7 hours to see a game if Omar is still the GM and Jerry and Warthen are still there. I don't like throwing my money away, Mr Wilpon... that's your job.

The 'Ropolitans : Reyes tears hamstring while testing torn hamstring tendon

This isn't surprising. The pain he was feeling never really went away with the rehab, so it makes sense there may have been a tiny tear in the hammy that their tests didn't pick up. Sometimes things are just too small to see until they become worse. This sucks. Any bets on how much of next season Reyes misses? I'll say at least the first 2 months, likely more.

The 'Ropolitans : Uniform changes in store for 2010?

I really like the black jerseys. I'm honestly not much of a fan of the pinstripes, for some reason. Maybe it just seems too Yankees-esque or something. I think if they're going to use the pinstripes, they should go back to the blue and orange piping like the 86 unis. Those were awesome. "If it was up to me (and most Mets fans)" Speak for yourself, commie! *shakes fist angrily* :p

The 'Ropolitans : Murphy may break record – a good one!

As with Josh Thole, Murphy has not finished a full season at AA yet, let alone playing any significant time at AAA before being thrown in the fire. Both of these guys are still developing. Murphy, given his major league hitting so far, projects the following stats in a 162 game season: 276/332/436, 37 2B, 11 HR. No, that's not All-Star level, but it's certainly nothing to be down on for a 24 year old that basically skipped over any real competition in the minors. He was never given time to learn to adjust to new levels of competition, so we've been able to witness those growing pains on the national stage. Also, if he does get back to what he was doing last year with taking pitches and drawing walks, I wouldn't mind him being a 35-40 doubles, double digit HRs, 350-360 OBP guy. In fact, that'd be pretty nice to have hitting alongside Wright, Beltran, Reyes, etc. I still think he should be in AAA next year continuing to learn, but I don't think we should be as down on him as some have been. I know this is NY, but let's give our young guys a chance to grow at a pace that HELPS them, rather than too quickly and hurting them.

I've gone back and forth on The Irish Hammer all season. I love Murphy, but have been thinking of him more as a bench guy most of the year. I'm starting to think that what we're see him develop into right now might not be all that bad. First, keep in mind this is only his fourth year of professional ball. In 2006 he spent his year in Rookie ball and high-A. In 2007 he was at St Lucie in high-A (in 135 games had 34 2B, 11 HR, 285/338/430). Finally, he spent last year between Brooklyn, Binghamton, and played 1 game in New Orleans before getting the call-up. What's that we always say about the team rushing young guys?

The 'Ropolitans : Poll Results: Fans say Santos shouldn’t be the starter in 2010

Josh Thole.... should be in AAA to start the year after a ST invite. It's time to stop rushing the kids. He would have only finished his first AA season if we hadn't called him up. He needs to get a chance to show himself consistently in AAA before we even think about bringing him up full-time. No way should a young guy like that be rushed up just be in a platoon. I'm content with bringing in another catcher that will be a solid platoon guy and just rotate him and Santos all season. I guess there's always Robinson Cancel... :p

I've always thought of Murphy as a solid bench and backup guy. Those guys have value in the market, but it's likely for a middle reliever or something like that. Maybe we could use him to pick up that elusive second LHRP or something. Just a thought.

Simply put: the New York Mets need to play better baseball. You have swagger and heart and grit when you're winning, but you don't have it when you're losing. That's the way this goes.
