After reading this letter I can see what the guy is talking about but I have no sympathy for him what so ever, he is a lifer for a reason and what he did in the past will always be there hunting him or at least I hope because he took someone’s life and for that he should pay with his own life, now, I don’t support the death penalty but I do support life in prison. Went Sam talk about in class about the lifers being interested to talk about and what not it honestly discuss me because no matter what I will never be able to laugh with someone who committed murder in cold blood and for their own personal satisfaction, but then again I am not a sociologist and maybe that’s why I don’t feel the same way as Sam or his Wife about this subject. Skimming over someone else responses I saw that they talk about everyone making mistakes and what not, yeah everyone makes mistakes but why fuck up someone else’s live and their families because you made a mistake, that’s bull shit. Maybe I am talking this too strong but I am trying to step on the victims families shoes and try to imagine how it would be if someone kill one of my family members because he was “young and stupid” that does not justify anything and this kids having compassion for this type of guys is because they try to understand the situation from his point of view from my understanding, a point of view that I would never even consider. Yeah they are persons and they need compassion just like any other human in this earth does but they will never get that from me no matter how hurt or upset they are I could never offer them that compassion. Even the most destructive unstable person needs compassion that to me is comment sense but that does not mean I have to show them affection and try to understand them. I might totally be missing the point of the article but this is what I think and I just wanted to throw it out there, anyone who committees murder in cold blood should pay for it and suffer while alive because this is the only justice in the world and no one is going to make me change the way I think about this subject is something that I am very set on and honestly don’t care what other might think.

I actually appreciated this class a lot because me coming from a different country can relate to some what how other people see the united states. For example when he talk about us seein the class form a muslim point of view living in irak I can onestly say that I would be part of the group that’s out there killing sondiers and do something to stop this Americans killing insonsent people, my people. I think it was an extremely eye opening class for many of the students because im sure they never put them selfs in someone elses shoes the way sam made them think. To see the videos he showed in class and how the united states is pretty much killing people for their oil is extremely fucked up I cant understand how this asshole politicians can live with their self after doing some fucked up shit like this because they have the most powerful army in the world it does not mean they can have their way in everything they want its like a bully picking on the smaller kids just because they can and want to. I never saw the war the way sam pretrade the soldiers as Christina invetors and at one point during his lecture something click in my brain and I was able to actually connect many of the pieces that did not make sence to me before the lecture. This country is driven by greed and I don’t think its ever going to change, they have to stop being so self fish and actually think about someone else other them their selfs. As soon as I graduate I am planning of moving out of the united states because I honestly don’t want to be a part of their dirty secrets or even be related to what they do in any way possible and that’s my own way of standing against their government it might not be much but I know ill be able to live with my self in a more peaceful matter. I might not be making much sence because I am tripping but like if the people have the option to choose who they want in charge of their country why george bush!! Like what the fuck seriously and then sara palin, like I think you should be graceful for how your government is shape and make better decision on who you want to be in charge of it because some really bad decisions have been made in the pass and its just amazing how you can see a clown running a such powerful country.

16 years ago @ Race Relations Project - What About Multiracial... · 0 replies · +1 points

After listening to this student talk about is multiracial family which I think is an amazing thing because you get to experience two different cultures, it also is sad how he cant identify him self to one or the other culture I can see why he would be confuse because we have this same issue in my family and even do they have never stepped back and actually analyze it, I have and its just a point that directly related to this students comment. My whole family would identify their self’s as brown here in the united states even do my mother has white skin and so does my little brother, we all moved to the states about seven years ago and since then I notice how they identify their self’s as being brown, I don’t know if this is what they should consider their self’s to be because clearly they are not brown, I think they like the student from the comment relate more to as their self from the people around them and not from the color of their skin which I think is how it should be. So I mean to the brother I would say to go with who ever you would be more comfortable with which I think is jumping on the brown team, fuck the color of the skin that doesn’t mean shit. I don’t know why Sam always makes us choose according to our skin sometimes I feel like he wants us to have conflict between us but that’s just my take on class this far. There are people in the states that completely forget their routes and pretend to be someone they are not. It is extremely important to remember your routes and to not forget about your heritage and your culture. I have seen many Mexicans “transform” themselves into Americans. They refuse to speak their native language and defame their own race and culture. I believe this is bullshit, why would you critic and dislike your own race. They simply hate themselves and want to become some one new. Fuck all this though the time of segregation is over, we are all humans and we should all be categorized as that. There is no need for specification amongst humans like questions regarding your ethnicity whether you’re a Mexican, American, Arab, etc… We need to stop creating stereotypes and accept one on another. No white team or brown team you are a human and the color of your skin should have absolutely no influence on the way others perceive you. If you are in a situation where you need to decide which to team to be in: you should decide by your culture and heritage not by skin color. You would be in the brown team because you are a Hispanic, and blood should make your decision not your skin color.

16 years ago @ Race Relations Project - What's With the Theme ... · 0 replies · +1 points

I think theme parties are not guided by race but more by television or some kind of media. The reason why I say this is because I see theme parties every weekend and they are always related to something in TV, for example jersey shore theme parties where hitting state college left and right at one point because of the mtv show that was being televise at that moment. With that said I can also see I guess white kids throwing different race theme parties but I mean I can just say that the reason for this is because people of color got more flavor I some way and me being latino don’t mind going to a white host party with a latino theme I just personality thing its big deal but that just me. I don tknow what type of parties that girl hits on the weekends but I have never seen a party were they disrespect a different race I mean if anything people worship rap music and the lifestyle from what I have seen in the United States. This might be irrelevant to the question but I feel like a lot of black people look for any excuse to bash of whites which is un fair cause they are pretty chill and yeah some ass holes and they usually get their ass kick but why come with attitude and shit taking because just sitting in class I have heard some black people just talking mad smack about people around then not only is disrespectful but annoying at the same time.

16 years ago @ Race Relations Project - Question on Discrimina... · 0 replies · +1 points

In my opinion people of color are still more likely to choose a white applicant for the position then someone of their own race or color. The reason why I assume this is because I think their ego might be a big part for this, which was not mention in class, but I feel that for someone of color to hire someone of color is rare in the corporate world. I think that they might feel that person being a treat to who they are in their specific company and don’t want to risk something they think they have work so hard for and loosing it to someone of their own race or color. Its as if they work extremely hard to get to that position there are in and don’t want to give a free pass to someone of color, as if they have to prove their self with their own resources in order to respect them as a co worker.
In my own personal case I have been shut down from a job interview because of my skin color and nationality, even when the interview is someone of my own race. Its like a feeling of hate right off the bat, not everyone is like this but non the lease this is really comment with the younger generation of people I have interview with.
I guess what I am trying to say is that in my opinion there is racism within once race specially here in the united states, I have feel as if people of my own race have a grudge or develop some kind of hate when seeing how people around them of their own race move up faster weather is carrier wise or just from being harder workers, but this to them is unacceptable and their way of getting you back is by probably talking about you behind close doors or just being assholes. I know this occurs specially in the Latino communities cause I have seen it and have talk about it with friends and we all agree with it, but I hope this comes up later in class and maybe see some research that will actually back my thuds up cause to me this is interesting. As a race we suppose to help one another but not in the U.S. at least not from what I have experience.
I might have steer a little off topic from the question but I think this is probably the base of my argument on why I think people of color might rather hire a Caucasian applicant rather then someone of color…. And I know I still need about twenty more words to complete the 450 words but hopefully this will count cause I have nothing else to say.

16 years ago @ Race Relations Project - LGBT Class - Question One · 0 replies · +1 points

In my opinion any couple that would want to adopt a child should be allow to as long as they can create a safe environment for the child to live in. In the case of gay couples I also agree with adopting a kid, in my opinion and from what I know gay couples are great parenting figures providing love and affection to their children. Gay couples have a lot less provability of getting divorce then straight couples therefore I think this is why their house hold is united and completely capable for a family. From the point of the child when he becomes old enough is where I think problems will emerge and not problems regarding the kids being conscious of having gay parents but society changing his view, the reason why I say this is because for example the kid can be completely fine with his parents being gay and to him that’s normal but when maybe interaction with the community in school for example where is classmates might tease him because of his parents and relating that situation directly to him will affect the child and can star many negative reactions focusing his parents and putting them at fault for what society is doing.
About the question of male gay couples vs. female gay couples adopting children. I think woman gay couples would have the preference in the eyes of society because they can provide that maternal love that a guy cant provide and being important for a child is seen as this. I can say that I would agree with that because no matter how caring a male couple might be the mother intuition is not there which could affect the outcome as a whole, but that’s just my opinion. I try to put my self in that situation and I can honestly say that I would much more rather have a female gay couple as parents then a gay male couple, this may be because I am a dude and I just would find extremely weird having two make gay parents because of my sex.
Over all I think anyone that wants to adopt a child should be giving that opportunity to do so because it’s great for the children and even more so for the foster parents who have no way of having children of their own. Gay couples and adoption complement one another so well because its couples coming together because of nothing other then love wanting and willing to share it with a child in need, and if our society would be more open to ideas like this and think differently about gay couples this would be even greater and more acceptable which in reality is all they want to be accepted in our communities.

16 years ago @ Race Relations Project - Negroes of the World P... · 0 replies · +1 points

As sam talked in class people of old age still consider their race to be “negro” I personally don’t see a problem with this terminology, provide more information about what the population looks like is the main idea for the census. As long as people will identify with this term I see no problem with keeping the term. In my opinion the census it self deals with many obstacles when it come to checking a box for your race because people will always identify their self to more then one and there is no way to have a race that everyone will identify with. People will never be happy and they always have something to complain about, or at least that’s how it appears to me in this case.

Its shocking to see this kind of disrespect on the soccer field now a days because of being such a diverse sport, its like people never move on and hang on shit that its extremely degrading and ahhh I don’t know how else to say it but its completely fucked up, why make a beautiful sport so dishonest and de graded to such a level where player can even celebrate a goal for their own team and their own fans, seeing event like these makes me wonder what the world will come down to if we cant even enjoy a game with out having people like this degrade you for the color of your skin. Some of the best soccer players in the world are of color skin and they play with a passion that has to admire by every fan of the sport unlike this idiots.
But this racist comment exist here in the United States as well, and they are not only in professional sports but go down to High School sports, which I can relate to because I played lacrosse as a High School student being Mexican and outgoing wanting to try a new sport I joint my high school team and things were great I loved the sport, got really into it and yeah I would get comments from my team mates but they were just joking and like funny jokes which I did not mind. Half way through my second season playing in the starting line and being a top midfield scorer I was in the field a lot, so we were playing our rival school and the game was heated. At one point I hurt this extremely racist comment and this are things that I cant just swallow, so I acted on instant and run thourds the kid and preceded to hit him with a rage I hade never experience before, to make a long story short I ended up getting charge for assault, kicked out of the team and suspended from school for 10 days while the kid walked out. Extremely unfair in my opinion and I can really relate to the meaning of hurtful words about ones origin and color of skin.
This is a huge problem in today’s society and I don’t really think it will ever change because we cant change people its just no possible with ignorant individuals like the ones on the video. As Che Guevara once said "Todos los días la gente se arregla el cabello, ¿por qué no el corazón?" meaning “every day people wake up, fix their hair. Why not their hart?” A great quote especially after watching this video and its one of those things that everyone needs to think about, because we need to depend on each other at the end of the day
