Releasing the digital download first and with no DRM is like using the honor system to distribute candy at trick or treat. That is to say it's a nice gesture, but are you really surprised when someone takes the whole bowl within the first hour. This was a situation that could have been easily avoided. Releasing physical copies first or at the same time as digital downloads and offer a product consumers will know is worth purchasing is the best way to curtail piracy.
