There are lots of media messages nowadays vilifying maleness. We have come to believe as a society that MEN, as a gender, are responsible for women's problems. This is untrue. Society--men and women both--are responsible for ALL social problems. It is no more incumbent on a man to fix an issue that has nothing to do with him personally, than it is for a woman. Men are not more capable than women for solving problems in far flung countries. I believe we should have at least one day a year when we can recognize men and fathers simply for who they are, and for one day stop pretending that it's all men, as a gender, who are somehow responsible for fixing everything. Food for thought: Imagine an article on Mother's Day holding women accountable for all the bad, neglectful, irresponsible mothers. I think we'd all rightfully find that offensive.
