I will probably cry when I receive my misandrist mermaid in the mail, because there is nothing like the feeling of knowing that every day, no matter how great or terrible your day is, there are people like you who were here to talk about it with joy and kindness and understanding or just to distract you with hilarity or take you out of your own world with Thoughts about Important or Interesting Things that you never knew. I hope that if we see people out in the world with toast totes that we can capture that feeling again. The Toast was there for me through my last year of college and first few years of real adulthood, while I got and lost jobs, while I fell in love with someone & eventually moved in with him, and then through the breakup when I got forced out of our home, on days where I was overwhelmed with despair at the world, on days where I was overwhelmed with joy in the world, and now I'm for-real dating a woman for the first time in my life and I wish I could share that experience in this circle as it goes along too, but knowing that you were here when I needed you will have to be enough. There was nowhere in the world that accepted and supported my estrangement from my mother so fully without question, both directly and by sharing your own stories. The Toast changed my relationship to Christianity and religious people in general significantly for the better. Mallory's Life is a Rich Tapestry mantra has made me a kinder and more accepting person. Seeing the relationships that people wrote about here that were both good and bad helped me define for myself what I want in life from a partner. On the worst days, knowing I could come here and find German Rocket Cats & Hey Ladies & Two Monks made everything brighter.
The Toast has changed my life, and the lives of so many others- and through that I hope that it has also changed the world a little bit for the better.
Thank you, to Mallory & Nicole & Nikki and all the rest who have made this the best place on the internet, and for captaining this ship into the sea better than we could ever have imagined. I will miss it so. (Also does anyone have the link to that google spreadsheet of everyone? I would love that so I can put you all into my tumblr dash.)
May your hair always be big, your hearts simultaneously cold and kind, and may you forever be too witches to spend any time listening to anyone who doesn't deserve your time.
