The Tories have long since marched from the centre-ground. Ted Heath for instance would not have stomached the mushrooming of food banks and the thousands of deaths caused by the DWP. To be accurate this article should be called "To flourish, our Party must not leap off the edge of a cliff".

Serious hair splitting to say it's not racism. Either way, some disturbing findings in the YouGov poll which the media and this site have conveniently ignored. And you are right that Javid has been on the receiving end of abuse. Baroness Warsi has been calling for an inquiry into Isalophobia in the Tory party for over 3 years, but as I said before, the media and the Tories are not interested in racism and racial abuse unless it's happening in the Labour camp.

Almost half of the Tory party members who were surveyed recently said they would never support a Muslim PM. So that's one major reason he didn't do well in the race. How odd this piece fails to mention that. Let's be charitable and say the writer was unaware of the YouGov poll. Unaware because the media largely failed to report it. But as we all know, racism is only an issue when it's linked to Labour.

I can't imagine Brian Walden and Robin Day letting Johnson getting away with bluster and lies. Eddie Mair nailed him and they would have destroyed him.

Ah I see, so that makes Johnson's behaviour alright then. How silly of me.

Proven liar, serial adulterer, ministerial incompetent and (at best) casual racist. This is what a once proud party has been reduced to.

I grant you that votes in car parks was not a good way to decide on industrial action. But Tory legislation was never meant to make it a level playing field. It was always aimed at making the trade union movement impotent. We now have a situation where millions of workers have little or no protection against intimidation, not by union bullyboys, but by corporations such as Sports Direct and Amazon who often treat workers in ways that 19th century mill owners would recongise.

As for photographs, perhaps your album needs updating. Food banks, lost souls (including many ex-service people) left to rot on the streets, many others "lucky" to be living in squalid, yet expensive accomodation, schools without basics like pencils, but with plenty of hungry pupils, sick patients in hospital corridors etc.

Indeed she was, and we're still feeling the impact. She laid the ground for the decimation of our industrail base, the selling of all our family silver, she helped create our current housing shortage and laid the ground that made the banking collapse a real possibility. I could go on...

Very interesting to read so many contributors here who are adamant that there’s no Islamophobia in the party and go on to protest about the curtailment of free speech.

So hands up you complainers if you think that free speech is under attack when Labour members are accused of antisemitism on the filmiest or even non-existent evidence...
