I assume you'll be picketing your local Planned Parenthood, who perform such ultrasound procedures before an abortion?

Big Journalism : OWS Letter to the Editor in USA Today: We Will Storm Wall Street With Guns

Do you use your gun to "storm Wall Street and our nations' capitals?" And again I ask, is "tak(ing) up their Second Amendment-sanctioned guns and storm(ing) Wall Street and our nation’s capitals" the sort of "redress of grievances" that we all have a right to? Additionally, do you acknowledge the fact that Ben's point is a double standard in media coverage, and that a similar letter to the editor written by a Tea Party activist would cause complete media panic?

The right to redress of grievances - by storming Wall Street with guns - is guaranteed? Really? And if you could read, you'd know that Ben was not "crying for the homeland stazi" but rather marveling at the double standard. As Ben stated, if a tea party rep had made the statement, would there be outrage from yourself and your lefty friends or not? Of course there would.

Yeah, it's always safe to talk about past Republicans with a modicum of respect. "Oh, for the long-ago past, when Republicans were human beings. Of course, we all called them bottom-feeding scum-sucking Nazi weasels even then, but it's fun to pretend that they were OK back then, so we can use them as a stick to beat present Republicans with." Liberal circa 1984: "Reagan is an evil, wicked, incompetent, mean-spirited boob." Liberal circa 2004: "Bush is an evil, wicked, incompetent, mean-spirited boob. Not like that nice, reasonable Ronald Reagan. If only Republicans would get back to being what they once were."

I don't know if that should make a difference. A movie should stand or fall on its own merits. If a movie sucks, then it doesn't matter if the book's better. The movie will still suck.

It seems a bit clumsy - The legend ends when the Dark Knight rises? Shouldn't it be called, "The Dark Knight Falls?" I suspect that when they settled on the title, they didn't yet have a script and didn't expect it was going to be the last of the franchise.

Whether one agrees or does not agree with the assertion of a link between abortion and breast cancer, the implication that the point of the article is to discourage breast cancer research is offensive and idiotic. And yeah, I trust the nation's largest abortion provider to not use millions of dollars in Komen money for breast cancer research. Really I do.

What a ridiculous charge! No one is saying, "don't support breast cancer research." Rather, the question is, "why do so many people who supposedly care so much about women's health ignore and obfuscate information about what is likely a leading factor in becoming afflicted with breast cancer?" If the American Lung Association gave millions of dollars to tobacco companies, would that perhaps cause you some concern? Or would pointing that out be "blaming smokers for getting sick?"

Give me a break with this class warfare idiocy. You can't appreciate"The King's Speech" because it's about the problems of a king?
Big Hollywood : Top 25 Left-Wing Films: #2 – ‘Apocalypse Now’ (1979)

I like your theory, Mr. Nolte. Next time I watch the movie I'll bear it in mind. Strangely, I've never seen the movie as anti-American. It's probable that I was just tone-deaf to such things when I was young, but it always seemed to me that the movie was a general criticism of war and what the experience of warfare does to people. Col. Kurtz seems to have the most salient point in that regard, which is that if you wish to win a war, you must be willing to sacrifice your humanity to do it. It may not be entirely true, but it seemed true enough to me when I was younger.

MercatorNet : MercatorNet: Unplanned release

Nothing you've cited here has the slightest relevence to the topic of the article, which is abortion. And even if it were true (as you previously alleged) that more people are killed "every day" from religious intolerance than from abortions, it would still be irrelevent, because the question of whether or not religion is the direct cause of the death of anyone under any circumstances has no relevence to the issue of whether abortion is morally right, wrong, or neutral.

Well, whaddaya know - there's a practical side to anti-blasphemy laws after all. Unfortunately, that barn door's been busted off long ago. You can't reasonably tell a society for years that defacing familiar religious texts and symbols is a necessary civil right, and then turn around and declare that the texts and symbols of unfamiliar religions are sacrosanct and that no one has the right to deface them under penalty of law.

I totally agree and it's pretty much concurrent with my post earlier. Bush's Christianity was so often cited in criticisms of him that many Christians eschewed politics, or at least conservative politics, so as not to suffer the indignity of seeming to be a Bush supporter,

Several things have happened since I became a Christian at the dawn of the 90's: 1. Christians "tried the political thing" - or think they have. Conservative political action was pretty much de riguer. Republicans won the House and Senate and that felt pretty good. Then GWB got elected and was a big disappointment, not being a transforming radical on the conservative side. And also there were a lot of high-profile Republican scandals. Conclusion for some Christians: Politics doesn't work. 2. Some Christians started to chafe at the whole conservative thing and have forsaken it to identify instead with the left side of politics. After all, the left are all about peace and feeding the poor and not being greedy, right? Sounds pretty Christian. Not like the greedy conservatives who just wanna start wars and neglect the poor. The take away from all this is, if you're a Christian, your choices are non-political "spiritual" Christian or politically active leftish Christian. Conservative Christian political involvement is hypocritical and useless and worst of all, it's sooooo 1994.

Big Hollywood : FOLK LIES: Joni Mitchell Outs Bob Dylan

I'm a Dylan fan but I totally agree with this writers' take on Dylan's use of rhyme and metaphor. In my opinion, the songs on Highway 61 Revisited in particular are some of the most egregious examples of word-salad show off lyrics in all of popular music. Most of it means absolutely nothing but can be easily interpreted, Rorshach-like, into whatever suits the seeker. He's a "post-modern" folk singer in this respect - he spills the words, you create the meaning. I suspect a certain cynicism underlies his approach, but I don't resent him for it. I also agree that Dylan seems to lack authenticity if you interpret him merely in a superficial sense. If he is simply a clever Midwestern suburban kid dressing up as Woody Guthrie, then he would be pretty false and facile. But perhaps this misses the point. He's never really been an authentic folk singer but is instead a self-manufactured pop star. Folk music was just the favors he brought to the party. The folk music contingency who booed his first electric tour were perhaps, in a sense, correct. He was using their forum as a springboard to what became internation pop stardom.
