I read the report when you posted... the teacher you spoke to should do the same. I keep very strict tract of educational trends, both as a teacher and as a proponent to ending public school education as it is now. if you look up AZ education requirements for HS graduation you can read the offical report. The more the reforms keep happening though the more students will be with drawn from public school, especially because AZ students can get a colorado PO Box and attend online high for free, get a computer, printer, and rembersed for internet costs. We are right now, as teachers, are being forced to learn how to conduct a distance education program (online) so thatt we are ready for the change from public brick and mortar schools to virtural ones. In the last few year 16 states have developed private online schools and enrollment has increasses 120%. Public government schools are the ones in trouble not charter or private or home schools...
government health care will not work because;
1: the system is based on prenetive care and
2: that means the government gets to tell you how you must prevent health problem
3: when the food police start taking twinkies off the shelf and
4: the excerise police force you out for a 2 mile run and
5: you can't drink, smoke, drive fast, have a coke, skydive, own a pet, live in a sunny place,
people will stop wanting it, especially because those who want their twenkies the most also want to exercise the least and the preventive rules will make their lives hell... everyone forgets that when you get something from someone you also must give up something and that is more often than not a freedom, and what kinds of doctors are going to still be practice "public" medicine??? the rich who can hire a private doctor will be the only happy healthy people worse than now...
These are not NEW sentiments... in 1901 President McKinney said that the common people were not smart enough to know what kind of governemnt they wanted or needed and therefore the people need governemnt to make those decissions for them..... No one said anythink then and now they wonder why we are where we are..
The way I see it there needs to simply be more parental involvement, However, having said that the parents and family of megan deserve some kind of justice for what this adult, who should have known better, put their child through... the problem is each state has its own laws dealing with cyberbullying but most of them do not make the person who is doing the bullying criminally responsible for their actions. If two girls got in each others face at school and one was harmed through the harrassment there would be recourse for the person and family. I think adults should be able to say what they want to adults when ever and however they want to, I also think adults should not be able to say what they want to to OTHER people kids.
none of what you are pointing out is new.... for decades those of us who can "afford" to pay for programs have been denied their use... try getting a education grant lately or state aid for college.... how about food and housing assistance when the month as been especially hard... sorry "you make too much" and even though you have been paying into these programs we don't think you get to use them... if this is not just as bad as the housing stuff and the credit card stuff.... it is a bad thing in this country to be productive and responsible, what i wonder is when more people start catching on to this fact and stop being productive and responsible then who is going to support them???
not to diminish your point but you have to remember that when a society forms any society even one without a formal government those members in the society agree to give up certian individual "right" to be part of the group. The trade supposedly is full human privilages at the will of the individual for the protective ability of the group or society.
The real problem today is not that political parties do not believe in the "rights" of the individual, it is that the individual doesn't really understand the difference between a right and a privilage. Take education.... most people believe that public education is a right and that all children must be allowed in public schools.... in fact there is no right of education in the articals of the constitution and most states leave this "right" out of their articals as well relying on legal mandates for attendance prior to the age of 13. But education is still not a right it is only a privilage as are many many things which people keep screaming about....
It doesn't matter that you don't believe in GOD what does matter is that the same respect you want for your beliefs those who do believe want the same respect... The problem has arrisen from the switch from freedom OF religion to freedom FROM religion... there is little difference when those who do not belive tell those who do they can not have any public display of their beliefes because it is offinisive as it is for those who do believe to tell those who do not they must adhear to the beliefes. I too am not a x-ian, although I believe in a higher being and an after life (nope not musslim or any other orginized reg) I also feel that if you do not like something that others do you simple should ignor it... I ignor homosexuals I see kissing in public because I do not approve... I do not work to make it illegal for them to not show affection for each other. I don't demand they take that some place more "approprate" or hide it away, but that is what happens to anything which symbolicly represents the affection reglious people have for their GOD, freedom OF not FROM religion....
just to make it clear the Megan Meier bill is a bill to make processicution of people who use the internet to harm another especially when its an adult bullying a minor... If you have forgotten Megan killed herself after the mother of a former friend spent weeks cultivation a relationship possing as a young man only to then turn on Megan and still pretending to be that boy told her she should die because she was worthless.... The bill is badly worded as are most bills which are rushed while the cause is still HOT, but the idea that an adult can tormant a child to the point of a crisis and there is no law against it under current child protection laws needs to be worked out. Our kids have to be protected from adults who are lying to them.... Its not about what adults say to each other in adult forums....
The only changes to the AZ HS grad requirements is the change from 3 to 4 credits in math plus 2 math labs, from 2 to 3 credits in language arts and 2 more lab credits in science which can be started in 8th grade. these are common changes taking place all over the country as a means to try and prep students for college entry. students today who graduate from high school often have to spend their freshman year in college doing 0 level courses in math and english because they didn't have enough in HS. The mandated courses which must be taught are Math 4 credits, english 3 credits, social science 2 credits, life science 2 credits, PE 1 credit. (12) students will still be required to take electives but not as many and they can ellimate electives after the JR year for the extra math and LA credits.... again this is happening in every public school accross the nation and has little to nothing to do with charter, public or online schools other than they are trying to compete for students...and compatition is good.
