The Toast : Outfits I Have Coveted In Atlas Shrugged

You know, I loved the pieces in that exhibit, but the layout bugged the crap outta me. It didn't have a great flow. (I mean, it was probably also my fault for going on a Saturday afternoon when it was MOBBED.) Their current exhibit, Death Becomes Her, is a different layout but IMO suffers from a similar "ehhhh, this is hard to navigate" malaise, despite being small.

Hilariously, not 8 hours after I read that Joyce Carol Oates tweet (and replied to it), I was *actually harassed* on Park Ave! One of the rich ones! This is what life success looks like.

This made me just smiiiile from ear to ear. Seconded (from above comment) about the Top Comments ending. (As an Atlanta native, I have to say, especially that last one.)

Ha! Figures people who love Mark Reads would take that course. I just wanna follow Eric Rabkin around listening to him talk about stuff with a wry yet heartfelt smile on his face. I'd never read TLHoD either, but what really knocked my socks off was, I'm embarrassed to say, Dracula. I'd never read that either, and it was honestly just such a revelation. :$

*weeping* I re-read it for a Coursera class, "Fantasy and Science Fiction: The Human Mind, Our Modern World," which I cannot recommend highly enough for all its units. But the TMC unit was just beyond. For some reason "The Musicians" had never really stood out for me, but something about it in this reading did. "Ylla" always stirs something in my viscera, too.

I just re-read that for the first time in a long time. I'm always just ~gobsmacked~ by the beauty and sadness and hope and... I think it might just be one of my Favorites Ever. The changes from its serial publication to the book release itself are intriguing as well.

I am really trying to be a good little mindfulness student, and simply revel in my enjoyment of this chapter and this review, because as everyone notes above, the transition to Shaun's narration voice is so technically skilled on the one hand and emotionally gutting on the other hand, not to mention Mark's insights are spot-on and help me to appreciate new and different facets of the story and characters. So I love this chapter/review for its own self, I really do... .... ohg V whfg xrrc rivyyl tvttyvat nf V tnmr vagb gur arne shgher, guvaxvat nobhg ubj, vs Srrq oebxr Znex'f oenva, Qrnqyvar vf tbvat gb lnax vg bhg guebhtu uvf rnef naq Oynpxbhg vf tbvat gb guebj vg gb gur sybbe naq fgbzc ba vg.

Oh, Mark. I get this warm, glowy, gushy feeling of happiness in my heart when you enjoy a book (or series) that is important to me in some way. Does that sound creepy? I feel like that sounds creepy. I feel as though one ought to know how not to write such creepy things by age 30. Oh well. Happy (hee) reading!
