Platform [OLD] : John Baron MP: Why is the Prime Minister taking so long to answer our European referendum letter?

"why vote UKIP when a major party will definitely deliver a referendum?" Last time around we had a 'cast iron guarantee' of a referendum. That's why. And not just from the Conservatives. The Lib Dems and Labour promised one as well. The voting public simply don't trust politicians to deliver on their promises any more and that is why smaller parties are gaining more and more support. If Cameron promised one now, who could honestly believe him?

Surely the date shouldn't be decided along party political lines? Is there not an independent body that arranges this sort of thing?

How patently absurd. I suppose it's homophobic to have a straight road? To give a straight answer? To campaign for five straight days? To sail through the Straight of Hormuz? To drink my whisky straight? They're either far too easily offended or grammatically challenged.

People who want a cloud-based OS but can't be bothered to wait for Chrome OS should simply buy a netbook and install Jolicloud on to it. Perhaps such a trend might prompt Google in to getting a bloody move on. Creating anticipation is one thing, but frustrating potential customers is not good for business.

But then if we find that we are still bound by this, and it is to our detriment, then we can leave the council too, or simply refuse to be bound by legislation from outside of our own parliament. There is very little that they can do other than 'condemn our actions', which - let's face it - means nothing.

Independence Home : Chris Grayling: Right or Wrong?

An excellently written article, and I agree with every word of it. At the end of the day, if a business has a reputation for being homophobic, they will lose custom, and so it is to their own detriment. The forces of the free market will prevent such prejudices taking place; it is not the place of government or legislation to intervene. The law is simply too blunt an instrument to use on such a delicate issue.

Independence Home : Labour strikes back

This will probably harm Labour more than it benefits them - I personally am glad that Gordon Brown has made such an idiotic move. Tony Blair was not popular by and means - in fact he resigned due to public pressure. As far as I'm concerned, anything that damages the other parties is good for us, so I welcome this move.

Independence Home : Darling!!! Stop messing up our country!

I agree - as harsh as it sounds, universities need to be elitist establishments. Otherwise the value of a UK degree drops and it makes it harder to gain employment. A lot of people simply can't afford to pay off their student loans and the whole thing is a sorry mess. Those who really have the drive to go to university will generally have the drive to work hard to pay off their student debts, those who go for laughs won't.

Independence Home : UKIP Full Manifesto

This makes an excellent read. What makes the UKIP manifesto unique is the fact that, as was pointed out to me at a recent meeting, every single policy was written by an expert in the subject. It was not written by politicians, and thus has no underlying agenda. The entire thing makes complete coherent sense because it was written by people who know what they are talking about. Even if you are not a UKIP supporter, it is well worth a read - just so you know what you're up against.

Independence Home : KFC Goes ‘Halal’

Your point is valid, and I am sure that KFC will soon see sense. But it still angers me somewhat that KFC felt the need to remove bacon from their menu, as it said in the article, "to avoid offending Muslim customers." Surely the more reasonable approach would be to leave the bacon on offer to those customers who do not wish to eat Halal and simply provide information on the menu to inform those who do that there is bacon in it. It's not so much the action as the fact that they felt the need to take it.

Independence Home : Election Watch

I've always found the Greens to be a bit of a joke, personally. Fair enough, if a party feels strongly about the environment, they can include environmental measures in their manifesto. But it is absolutely ludicrous to base an entire political party around the desire to 'save the environment', and it astounds me that they have received any votes at all, let alone taken a council seat. Surely political competence ought to come before green issues. As yet there is no concrete evidence that climate change is even a legitimate theory; what a pity for the Greens if it all suddenly gets disproved.

It's despicable that we can't even make a substance illegal without the say-so of the bureaucrats in Brussels. It has been proven to be as dangerous as many illegal drugs in the UK and the fact that it is available legally sends out the message to young people that it is safer. The EU has no right to dictate which substances should and should not be illegal in Britain.
