Breitbart.tv : Congressman at Town Hall: 'The Federal Government Can Do Most Anything in This Country'

L4S, Agree, I even support your Term Limit example. I also agree that, under the current system we do not get the best and brightest at all. Our best do not even make an attempt to get into the game. That needs to be fixed first, as well as the benefits and retired pay, etc. I do agree with 1). As for 2), like I have already said, the "Best" have no desire to enter the political game, too much to lose and not much for them to gain. It is like the adage that says something like, "Those that cannot do, teach", well, those that cannot do, are mostly politicians. The question should not be that we cannot find good people; it should be how can we get our best and brightest to actually want to serve for a short time and then go back to their private and productive lives. I think we can agree that the majority must go and soon!

You also make valid points, but your math still leaves 1 million. Still a large pool of applicants from which to choose. It is not the intention to throw out the good for no good reason. It is changing the process, letting more have the opportunity to make a difference. Trust me, there are plenty of very smart and very capable prospects out there, I work with many every day. With just a little tweek in the process that opens the door, they will gladly jump in and give it a go. I takes more courage to change than it does to accept the status quo.

So I take it that you would not support term limits as an Amendment to the Constitution? I believe that the Overwhelming majority of the public is Fiscally Conservative in thought and practice and when we start turning over the politicians, we will realize that quickly. There are plenty of good, smart and capable leaders out there that would rise to the task and do a great job. We have over 300 Million people in this country and you do not think that we can find approx 470 people every 2 years to capable of doing the job well? Take off the blinders and realize that a "Professional" politician was never the intent nor does it provide the best outcome. But you are making the argument for all those that vote 30 years to retain their corrupt rep in office; everyone thinks their “Person” is good. So, where is your “Thinking Smarter” idea? If you are willing to say another concept is wrong, you must be able to articulate the other side of the equation. So, let’s hear your idea.

I agree with both of your positions, but that is my point. You are basically saying that it will never change. What Stark said is, without a doubt incredible and is prevelent among both parties. They feel they can do whatever they like with total disregard. I am a Supply Side Economist and Free Market Capitalist, I completely understand the difference between the parties and beleive that the Republican Party needs to return to its Conservative roots.

Granted, you are correct, the corrupt have ruled for too long, have made a real mess of the process, and want to retain their power over the people at all costs. It will not be ease, but we have to start and and continue trying. It is just too easy to sit back and say: "No matter what I do, it will never change, so why bother"... This is what gets us to the point of a "Revolution". Soooner or later it must change, the choice we have is to make it civil of not.

Take for example, Oil Changes. You may change your oil by yourself in your driveway and save money, but your neighbor takes his car to Jiffy Lube and pays for the most expensive product. You and he get the same result, but his cost 5 times as much as yours. Both being individual "Choices". Now the Government steps in and mandates that you buy Oil Change Insurance. And now that you are "paying" for insurance, you will go to Jiffy Lube also and select the most expensive product. The net effect, everyone will now spend more of "other people's money" and the total cost will rise. Sooner or later it will cost too much, as the UK is now realizing, and the Government will no longer be able to take "other people's money" to pay the bill and will need to "Ration". Guarantee!

This, without a doubt, is a problem, not just with Democrats, but also with Republicans and Independents. We complain about "Term Limits", but do not seem to realize that we have the power to "inact" Term Limits ourselves. It is my proposition that we, every American eligible to vote, turn over every member of the Senat and House at every election opportunity, regardless of political party. Remember people, we elect to congress to represent us, our state (More in the Senate) and localized area of our state (More in the House). We do not need "Professional" politicians, we need our neighbors speaking for us and then returning to live in our neighborhood after 2 or 6 years. When this happens, the government will return to working for the people, not the people working for the government. We, the people, have the complete power at our hands.
