get pkgbackup from cydia (cost a couple of $'s but works great)...it stores a contact in your address book & when you jailbreak again, sync your contacts, run pkgbackup to restore all your Cydia apps in one shot. if you have cydia apps where you can customize preferences, you will have to redo the preferences after restoring the apps, so I would recommend making a note of your prefs in those apps

if you did not get your files saved, you just need to wait & when the jailbreak is ready, you will be instructed what to do

i did...according to his post, he suggested people who didn't even have plans to ever jailbreak their phone to point to his server....just a safety measure in case something ever went wrong with the official software release or if you ever wanted to sell your phone jailbroken & unlocked

yeah, i saw that & that is the only thing that kind of confused me...he said that he was enabling it again for 3GS on 3.1 users...does anyone have a jailbroken 3GS on 3.1 besides maybe the dev team? maybe he is getting it prepared for the 3.1 jailbreak for all of the 3GSers who have 3.1 already

actually what he said everyone should do is point to his alternate server so that when a jailbreak is released, this is where you will obtain the software version, not from apple's servers if you are on a mac, here is how I did that: 1. open finder 2. select shift+command+g 3. in the folder box type in /private/ 4. ctrl click the "etc" folder - select "get info" - make sure permissions are set to read+write 5. now double click the "etc" folder - scroll to "hosts" file - right click - get info - set permissions to read+write 6. now ctrl + click the "hosts" file - open with text edit - add the info from saurik on the bottom line of the file & then save

the files cydia was storing was the ECID, but since apple is not recognizing the 3.0 anymore, you cannot store those now

i think he was talking about the itunes redirect not the storing of the ECID SHSH file. In fact if he is already jailbroken on 3.0 with a 3gs, it is too late to store those files on Cydia

from reading Saurik's post, even if you have no intentions of jailbreaking or unlocking your iphone, you should still point to his server. So I would suggest using the following instructions below(if on a mac) & point to his server & then wait for the 3.1 jailbreak from the dev team & follow instructions when that happens 1. open finder 2. select shift+command+g 3. in the folder box type in /private/ 4. ctrl click the "etc" folder - select "get info" - make sure permissions are set to read+write 5. now double click the "etc" folder - scroll to "hosts" file - right click - get info - set permissions to read+write 6. now ctrl + click the "hosts" file - open with text edit - add the info from saurik on the bottom line of the file & then save

i've used pkgbackup twice & it works great...you still have to reset your preferences for some of the apps so you will want to make a note of those
