If what The Boss really means is that we need more beautiful, buxom blonde chicks who stay out eating and drinking until 5 AM, then I am in complete agreement.

Big Hollywood : 'About a Boy' Director Makes Pro-Illegal Immigration Videos Calling Opponents Racist

I will find out where Paul Weitz lives. I will jump over the wall, climb the fence and break the lock. I will camp out in his living room. I will eat lunch and dinner from his groceries and his dishes but pay for my own breakfast. I will take the textbooks from is children and for every minute his kids spend with their teachers, I will interrupt twenty seconds with my own demands. I will double-park his car four days a week. But I will trim his hedges so it is all OK and I am sure he will not mind.

Big Hollywood : Egyptian Actor Jailed for Insulting Islam

Don't read the article. Look at the first paragraph. It's dead on to exactly what I said. It defines "Islam" as "surrender." You are trying to pick a fight with the wrong person. Don't be that kind of angry; it's detrimental to your own cause.

One of the more current pieces of propaganda says that "Islam" translates to "peace." In the case of the name of the religion itself, that is not true. In the context of the name of the religion, "Islam" more accurately translates to "surrender." That should change any thinking person's perspective. I am still astounded why President Obama refused to support the Iranian Democracy movement that would have removed a hostile, militant Islamist government from power, but then backed the Egyptian uprising in such a way that just installed a hostile Islamist government.

Big Hollywood : Gene Simmons Rocks Sundance: Robert Redford's a One-Percenter and Obama's a Rookie

Growing up, I was a metalhead. I still am, though my hair is short now and I haven't been able to fit into a lanky black concert t-shirt in about 15 years. But I was never a KISS fan. I didn't hate them, I just wasn't a fan. Have read Gene Simmons' interviews and writing, and having to luck into meeting him twice, I can unabashedly and proudly say I am a Gene Simmons fan. I think that is more important.

I write this as someone who never got to see the Roth-led Van Halen in concert. They broke up when I was 13 and I never quite forgave them for it. Van Halen was the perfect, and defining, band for the 70s Rock to 80s Rock/Hair Band transition. And 30+ years later, their music doesn't still just hold up, it is superior to most of the guitar-oriented music today. Just playing the number game, any concert Van Halen plays will at most be 13 songs/52 minutes (according to Amazon.com's "A Different Kind Of Truth" album length this morning.) Hoping for a standard 2:15 concert, that leaves 83 minutes of the old Van Halen to be played. That's 83 minutes of being 13 again. I'll take that. Providing of course they can actually stay together for a tour. Dear God, hold it together men. I wanna be 13 again for a little while.

Big Hollywood : Did Oprah and Rosie Burn Their Brands By Going Political?

Your own citation stacks its numbers so that it compares apples to oranges. The numbers are a lie. The comparison for one "standard" was a six-month loopback and the other was comparing a different show to itself over a different increment entirely. Go look at the raw Neilsen numbers, for her old show and the new network. The facts are facts. Her shows cost more and rate lower than what is replaced. That is bad business. Her demographic appeal weakened among all segments save black women (and especially unmarried black women). Those are simple, raw and "un interpreted" figures. I have no idea why you spend so much time trying to spin Oprah. I hope you are paid by the hour.

The Neilsens are not rightwing media. The fact is her network costs more per hour than the network she replaced and the ratings are lower. That is two very significant strikes against OWN. Oprah has twice the ratings of the nearest talkie competition. Oprah lost a significant portion of her audience. That still make her #1 but instead of beating the competition by 40%, she beat them by 10%. That is still a very significant drop, especially as far as ad rates go. And for the record, Judge Judy was beating Oprah in the daytime ratings post-2008 elections. People did turn Oprah off because she turned them off. Those are rather plain facts.

I disagree. Any time to take a very public position that alienates a significant portion of your actual or potential audience you have effectively shot yourself in the foot. That is what both of these women did. If their objective was to appeal to segments of segments of the audience, it was a shrewd move but has obviously not paid off like it has for Maher or Stewart. If their objective was to appeal to all potential watchers, then participating in overt and apparent and biased political actions was just stupid.

Politics is by its very nature divisive, even between people in the same party or philosophy there are arguments over methodology if not objective. Entertainment, given the overhead and audience required to make a hit, must be as inclusive as possible in order to be a lasting and viable commercial enterprise. If not that, then it needs to rely on micro marketing in order to be lasting, which means lower production budgets and a higher percentage of a smaller audience. This should be rather obvious to anyone in any business. I fail to see why most entertainment entities these days actively work to alienate massive sections of their potential audience. The iPhone would not be successful if it was made just for left-handed people. Cars would not sell if drivers had to be above 5'9". Televisions are not made to be viewed with just the left eye. Entertainment properties should not be exclusionary either, especially as all the movie studios and networks are owned by public companies and they have a fiduciary and legal duty to maximize efforts and profits. Instead, the platform has been hijacked, money wasted, opportunities foregone and the inter-Hollywood commercial culture has been made overtly hostile to people who just want to tell a story to an audience if their private beliefs to not mesh with either the Zeitgeist or applied convention of the studio hierarchy. Even opportunities to perform micro marketing to appeal to other-than-liberal segments are not just unsupported, but actively oppressed, furthering the breech of fiduciary duty of these units of a public companies. C'mon Hollywood. There are a lot of stories out there. And there are a lot of audiences out there.
