Danny J Bixby : How Important Is the Source?

love the fancy new blog! and wisdom stands on its own... “you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” - Winnie the Pooh I think that if wisdom is indeed wise, it all leads back to the same places anyway. Doesn't matter where it comes from.

Danny J Bixby : Lose 50 to gain 500

on the surface I like the idea... lose 50 to gain 500.. hmmmmm... wonder how you quantify the "quality" of the ones your gaining vs losing.. seems like the ones that are leaving are a result of being pushed outside their comfort zone.. part of me says... thats good... they need to be pushed out.. ~has some internal debate~ hmmmm

Danny J Bixby : How To Tell You Have the Right Gospel

The right Gospel depends on where you live. http://strangemaps.wordpress.com/2008/01/27/237-r... We live in SW Missouri so Baptists are the "real" Christians in this area based on their majority and the cultural and political roots. When I lived Illinois, Catholics ruled. When I was in Minnesota, Luthran's ruled. If I lived in Turkey, Sunni Muslims would rule.. Doesn't matter where you go, the regional influence determines whether or not you know the truth.

Danny J Bixby : Virtual Church Poll Rant

I am all for progress... you know me.. but! I guess I see the virtual church as an extension, but never a replacement.... What is the definition of virtual church anyway?? If I were building a virtual church I would still go brick and mortar to provide the experience and community.. but bring all the supporting services / information and media online and under one umbrella.. is that a virtual church?

Danny J Bixby : Do You Believe in Faith Healing?

Something else I find interesting. Jodie Osteen (the mother of Joel Osteen) wrote a book about her bout with Cancer and how god intervened in her healing. http://www.amazon.com/Healed-Cancer-Dodie-Osteen/... While I have not read her book, I have read a few Joel books where he talks about his mom. Her story is pretty inspirational and I believe her faith in God honestly helped her immensely because it liberated her from fear and despair! I am not convinced that God helped her.. but her faith in God certainly did.. hmmm..

Think about this. We have a whole generation that finds the idea of Neo living inside the Matrix with awesome godlike powers more believable than the story of Jesus thats presented in the bible. Neo could do anything, and we understood why. We could make that leap, we could see how it all worked together. We understood the concept and what it took to get there. It seems plausible.

On second thought.. If we live in a massive simulator... maybe god is the super admin that can mod reality and change the rules on demand.. Maybe faith healing is a cheat code god programmed in?? woohoo! I understand! Jesus had epic cheat codes!

~throws in some mysterious mood music~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWpwZf3jebw I think Einstein knew more about the mind of god than any religious leader has. A knowledge of the existence of something we cannot penetrate, of the manifestations of the profoundest reason and the most radiant beauty - it is this knowledge and this emotion that constitute the truly religious attitude; in this sense, and in this alone, I am a deeply religious man. (Albert Einstein) I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it. (Albert Einstein, 1954) I believe in Spinoza's God who reveals himself in the orderly harmony of what exists, not in a God who concerns himself with the fates and actions of human beings.
Everyone does love magic! Indeed! I think that accounts for lots of peoples belief in all sorts of things including bigfoot, ufo's, ghosts, the lock ness monster, religion and spiritual matters. I like your point about "what point in time". Who knows? Once we can develop the technology to lay hands on people and heal them instantly we will understand what it takes and if Jesus could have possessed that power. I think that the creator designed a universe(s) and laws that can be understood at some point. In respect to insta-heal superpowers in general, I am betting on nanotech to get us there. Put sprinkle of nanobots in your hand, rub it in, let them replicate then have them target the root of the disease at the cellular and DNA level. Tada! All fixed! Who knows.. there is other weird stuff happening in what we perceive to be empty space. Its actually not empty at all. Who knows what we will learn as we dive deeper into that. Ever see this movie?? http://www.whatthebleep.com/ Its a mind bender.. Lets watch it in our small group meeting!

Danny J Bixby : Is the Bible the Word of God? (Spoiler: No)

well! awesome post.. Its cool to actually wanna read some blogs about something other than the junk I normally look at.. and what strikes me about what your saying is that it seems way more in line with reality to me. I like the idea of Christians being open to the reality of human influence. I also like your understanding of interpretation. The more I study history & religion combined with psychology, the more I understand how fallible religion can be. I also realize how religions predating Christianity impacted Christianity.. When you have so many highly questionable variables surrounding a certain outcome, your not going to get a certain outcome, and I like certain outcomes. I guess I have been conditioned to them, or conditioned to wanting them. Thats my human need for certainty creeping in. So when I come at it from that perspective, I am much more attracted to people on a spiritual journey that are open to pushing into a new realm or depth of understanding.. I guess that feeds my need for uncertainty.. Hmmmm... these battles in the mind and in the world over religion are timeless.
