I've watched this with my mother for years. Granted, if the money taken from each of us had been invested and actually earned interest, maybe this wouldn't be the case, but alas, it isn't. It was a Ponzi scheme from the first and made worse by the theft of the money supposedly in the lock box. I'd be happy if the government would just give me back what I've contributed plus a modest interest rate so that I could invest that money myself and take me out of SS and Medicare in the future, but it ain't gonna happen!
