i usually & generally agree with Chris Hedges, but the facts are that there was a high-profile shakedown of the Western Ukrainian Government by Joe Biden, who got their special prosecutor, who was investigating Burisma & Hunter Biden's involvement, fired, & Biden subsequently publicly bragged about it, while any such politically-motivated shakedown of the Ukraine by Trump has yet to be fully explicated.

Oh, now I recall, it is in regards to JHK's statement: "Historical obfuscators might say the Civil War was a lofty, legalistic quarrel over “state’s rights,” but of course it was really about the intolerable depravity of slavery."

It was not a "Civil War," but a "War of Secession", & the institution of slavery was a galvanizing issue, not the major dispute. The Northerners also held slaves & Lincoln pushed & signed the Fugitive Slave Act before the "Civil War". The North/Union realized that, without slavery, the South would be bereft of labor to produce exports, mainly cotton, but the North received the black slaves as "wage slaves" in their industrialized ghettos after the end of the war, which led inevitably to the Labor & Civil Rights movements, which was not just for oppressed Blacks.

It's like that old story about the naval commander who, upon seeing the approach of a vast enemy fleet the horizon, tells his first mate: "Go fetch me my red shirt & my brown pants."

This is supporting the idea of "humanitarian intervention" & regime change to install "democracy", which has been proven over and over to be a false front & a disaster everywhere the US has implemented it. Iran is beset by terrorist organizations, the foremost of which is the MEK, which is supported by the US & Israel. Iran isn't supporting exporting terrorism, but the US/NATO/Israel/Saudi alliance is.

War, like the false patriotism that supports it, is the last refuge of a scoundrel. "War is the Health of the State." It's the first-resort in the "wag the dog" toolkit of distractions from political crimes & uncomfortable truths.

The US/NATO is already strategically conventionally, outgunned by Russia in the Gulf, Med & Baltic battlespace, leaving aside the global nuclear theater where US ABM systems have been rendered part-totally useless.

In the 2016 campaign, Hillary Clinton actually promised to bomb Iran.

Speaking truthfully, which is nigh impossible for him, Netanyahu should say "Israel will not allow regimes that Israel seeks to annihilate to acquire nuclear weapons." Not that Iran is actually developing or acquiring nukes, while Israel has around 200 by conservative estimates, some platformed on German-made submarines. Hardly anyone wants to talk about that fact. But Iran could have acquired nuclear weapons from other sources without developing them internally. However, there is zero evidence of either case.

If Reagan was the "Great Communicator", Trump is the "Great Dissimulator".
