"What they are for, how to tame them, whether they should be sold for cheese."

You are perfect.

There are clothes specifically for babies in the NICU, which might be a nice gift. As long as you include something for the baby, everything else for her seems justified. Fuzzy socks and good-smelling lotions, etc. are great. Gift certificates for restaurants near the hospital might be nice, especially if they deliver.

When friends of ours had a very early baby, a group chipped in to get a house-cleaning service for them. They'd been at the hospital on and off for weeks and hadn't had time to think about their own space. That sort of gift certificate might be good down the line? (But only if you think your friend would take that as a gift and not a hint, of course.)

So sorry for everything you're both going through, and sending good thoughts your way.

Would highly recommend Má Pêche or John's Pizza (the one that only serves full pies), if you're in need of dinner before the show.

If you want to move there, go!

Being in the city gave me enough adrenaline for the first year to live on a combination of secondhand books, park walks, and bagels. Creative jobs don't pay a lot, but other things fall into place. You'll find a way to make it work. There are great happy hours, and plenty of people to hang out with in your field. Plus, if your friends work in theater/dance/performance, they'll help you get into their shows for free and you can help them get into yours. Stuff you'd never pick on your own that you might love. Good luck! Enjoy it!

The year of long distance (also, coincidentally, our first year of marriage) has an end date at last. We found an apartment! We signed the lease! He resigned from his job! We booked a moving truck! There's still packing and all sorts of nonsense, but it's happening. If I had champagne, I'd pop it right about now.

What do you feel like celebrating this week, friends?

Writing so many thank you notes this week.

Tell me the thank you note you never wrote and always regretted, or the best one you received!
