Firstly, I'm a Notre Dame sophomore and my jaw literally dropped when I first found out about Obama's invitation. Arguments that many students want Obama to speak (which admittedly they do) somehow makes it appropriate are ridiculous. Catholicism isn't a democracy. It is a revealed religion; if 99.9% of Catholics suddenly decide that abortion really isn't that big of a deal that doesn't change the fact that it is an intrinsically evil act. A University that claims to be Catholic must stand at least for the fundamental truths of its faith. And that certainly doesn't involve honoring Obama.

Obama is without a doubt the most radical leftist abortion fanatic in the history of the presidency. While a senator, he voted multiple times AGAINST legislation that protected infants from being left to die after surviving a failed abortion attempt. It is because of his extreme stance against the sanctity of innocent life that his invitation to Notre Dame is so troubling.

This sends an implicit approval or at least ambivalence to Catholics worldwide about the importance of the life issues. The University should stand for truth, not some misguided notion of "discussion." There's nothing to discuss. Our right to life is not based on the authority of a woman and her doctor but Almighty God from whom we derive all of our unalienable rights.

Alan Keyes is perhaps the most articulate and well-spoken Conservative out there today. I'm looking forward to hearing him speak in person.
