Crasstalk : Streaking Through The Week Open Thread

Yes, both rounds made me feel terrible--tired, flush, sore, just general ugh. I did try to hydrate before and after (which often helps me with vaccines in general), but this was my "worst" reaction to any vaccine. In the last few years I had to redo all my childhood vaccines and get all the old people ones, too. I do have have slightly weird immune system, because I had a bone marrow transplant. I will say, I've had a friend and relative get shingles, and I'd rather deal with the vaccine.

Crasstalk : Start The Week Open Thread

In the late 80s - early 90s my second high school had a designated smoking area (The Smoke Hole). They added extra time between class changes to give students time to go smoke. It wasn't much time, but many still made the run (big school, it could be a distance awayl). Pretty sure you had to be 18 to buy cigarettes then, but the principal/teachers that watched the area didn't card. I will say, smoking in unauthorized areas didn't happen, but everyone smelled of smoke.

I've heard of the stew callaloo, but I didn't know it was name of the green too. Interesting. I did wonder if you ever officially id-ed it.

Weird, even if you crush or cut? I think Peanut is right, it looks more like Thai basil--the stems are the thicker, darker and the edges of the leaves are more jagged. Both have Sweet (Genovese) basil and Thai have a licorice flavor to me, but have different tastes/styles. I am a Spurs fan <Prices is Right Loser Horn.wav>. Thanks. I'm okay with Kane leaving. He's been wanting to go for years now and at least it's not in Premier League. That would kill me (not prepared for Poch this season either tbh). Lloris makes me sad. They should've (slowly) replaced him a while back, but he's been a great keeper for 10 years and now he's just skulking around in the shadows looking for a new team. Looks like that's almost resolved, but it still feels like he deserves more.

At the same time Crasstalk started surging again, I had 3 friends in real life who were previously Novid come down with Covid (two were super cautious) in the last few weeks. It scary out there! Hope everyone gets the good meds and heals up quickly.

It varies. A lot of authors/publishers will say they're an Amazon Best Seller if they get the orange Best Seller tag on the book page That doesn't always mean they were #1. That goes by top sellers in subcategories (Fantasy Humor, Paranormal Vampire Romance, etc). Some of the subcategories can be smaller and need fewer sales to hit to top 100. Although Amazon tries to make the system somewhat opaque (and changes often), people do game them system categorizing their books in less active subcategories.

I'm still NoVid. Because of immune system issues they did test to see how well the vaccines took and whether I had it before (unknowingly) and I had not. It's not 100% accurate, but my doctors were pretty confident it was true in my case.

Crasstalk : Happy Weekend Open Thread

I find this story, or rather the reaction to it kind of wild. I remember my Modern US History professor talking about this as fact back in the early 90s. Can't remember what the exact proof was, but she always backed up what she taught. She was not a fan of Reagan, tho. This was at the University of Tennessee, not some hippy liberal arts college. I know this is big, because someone directly involved is on record now, but still...

Crasstalk : Hello Open Thread!

In November/December we vacated our rental house in San Jose because of major plumbing issues (the main sewer line totally collapsed and it was under the foundation, which was missing a footing and sinking). It was an almost 900 square foot 1910s 2 bed, 1 bath. I can't even begin to list all the things wrong with the place. While they did fix the foundation issue at least to bring it up to code, everything else was planned to be covered up. Owner and property manager talked with trades folks in front of us. It was listed at $950K in January and it's under contract now.
