I disagree. I don't discuss politics in the classroom - but I'm also glad that i'm a math teacher. I think that every teacher, no matter the subject, should present unbiased facts, and not their personal opinions. This has not been the case in my child's classrooms, and its definitely a misuse of power imho. I also feel very much responsible to produce results and help my students prepare for the future. If there was a person out there that could do my job better, then the district should definitely hire them - the students deserve the best teacher that's available!

A bill that was introduced in MO desribes just this problem with DoE - every state should draft legislation like this and take action on it! I've read through all the messages on this thread and this one seems to me to "hit the nail on the head" We can't put our faith in any one man, or woman for that matter. It's healthy to question everyone's motives I think, but at the end of the day, we must UNITE in the common 912 message. This is why term-limits are so important. Even the most honorable person will be tempted by a long-term position of power. (We are all human.) The Founders took great care to guard our continent against this threat. That's why it's so disheartening to see Americans idolize President Obama. It may be natural to look to our "leaders" for inspiration, but we must be ever mindful of discerning truth for ourselves through prayer.
