While Governors everywhere are having to cut education budgets, the current admin is gearing up to use this as a means to further their agenda: http://t.co/uv3eLVv Duncan is threatening to use his power to alter No Child Left Behind w/out Congressional approval!!

Common Core didn't have congressional approval either! http://concernedabouteducation.posterous.com/a-co...

MY SUGGESTION would be that parents demand their school boards FOCUS ON CONTENT.
Over the last 20 years, the length of my career, I have witnessed a gradual degradation of REAL, AUTHENTIC CONTENT.

I have compiled information on the Common Core Standards Initiative here: http://concernedabouteducation.posterous.com/educ...

I disagree. I don't discuss politics in the classroom - but I'm also glad that i'm a math teacher. I think that every teacher, no matter the subject, should present unbiased facts, and not their personal opinions. This has not been the case in my child's classrooms, and its definitely a misuse of power imho.

I also feel very much responsible to produce results and help my students prepare for the future. If there was a person out there that could do my job better, then the district should definitely hire them - the students deserve the best teacher that's available!

Whereas, in 1965, the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act launched a comprehensive set of programs, including the Title I program of federal aid and in that same year, the Higher Education Act authorized assistance for postsecondary education, including financial aid programs for college tuition; and
Whereas, in 1980, the United States Congress established the United States Department of Education as a Cabinet-level agency; and
Whereas, nowhere in the United States Constitution is the United States Congress granted authority to oversee education, and the United States Department of Education is continuing to take upon itself an ever increasing role of encroaching on the jurisdiction that belongs to the states; and
