Onward State : Student Tech Survey Reveals Cool Statistics

Robot Nittany Lions and robot teachers? Wow, I didn't see that in the survey results, but if you say its coming we need to get prepared. We'll be releasing the full survey results in a week or two. We are still trying to make sense of some of the data, but this is one way we work to make sure we are addressing student needs. The more you tell us and the more we ask the closer we get to solid technology services.

Onward State : A New Way To Interact In Class: Backchannel Learning

Hi Steve ... we are indeed talking to our colleagues at Purdue about this. We've done quite a bit of work looking at how multi-channel discourse can impact teaching and learning. As a matter of fact my colleague, Scott McDonald, teach a graduate course related to Disruptive Technologies in Teaching and Learning (CI 597A) where we investigate these kinds of tools. Our work was written up in the Chronicle of Higher Education not too long ago ... see http://bit.ly/1AyYL1 ... would love to hear more about how you think this could play out on campus! You know where to find me ;-)

Cole Camplese : 2009 Student Survey Thoughts - Cole Camplese

Hi Jerry ... yes, we will be releasing the report very shortly. I am using the draft ... I am guessing we'll be finished in the next week or so. I'll post a link to it here when it is live. Our old reports are available at http://tlt.its.psu.edu/about/reports ... there are all sorts of great things in the latest numbers to explore.

Cole Camplese : PASS Quota Pushed to 10 GB - Cole Camplese

Karen, you got it! Steve mentioned it this morning at a meeting we were in and I asked if I Could share the word. I went to work and was able to easily give myself more space. Very cool. Chris, you nailed it! As more people use Blogs to manage so much of their digital lives I think giving them ample space is now a requirement. As far as dropbox like functionality, we are thinking of ways to do something close to that. Stay tuned!

Hi Dave ... the ads don't seem to bother me too much, but you are right about the ads. I think we should revisit AD52 and see how it plays out with something like this. I am wondering what you think about the blog space as a live question tool replacement as well?

edushizzle : Intense Debate - edushizzle

Hi Bart ... I would offer that in *some* disciplines, the notion of the critique as comment is sometimes just as critical as the original contribution. Take for example the converations we had with Keith the other night about how art students need to learn the correct way to reflect on someone else's work ... that is a prime example. The same thing happens quite a bit in the Humanities -- think english, philosophy, and similar fields. Education also feels as though comments are important artifacts. All this leads down the path towards enhancing the tools so they become important to a broader range of people. One of the really interesting by products of working across all of PSU is that we can begin to understand problems of practice for lots of people. Might not fit IST, but it might with pedagogical twists? Who knows. Let's keep exploring it.
