Just as it takes a town to raise a child, so it takes one to ignore the loud painful slow death of the innocents. I hope the howls of the starving pups haunt them.

Hm. I've watched all the videos, read all the comments, reports, etc.

What struck me the most was this. Mr. Williams wasn't holding the thing in his right hand like a knife he was carving something with. He was holding it like a pen he was sketching out a new idea with. No wonder he didn't drop the "knife", if it were a writing instrument.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1VKo6-m27c at about 51 seconds, you see Mr. Williams walk in front of the patrol car, seeming to write on a board with his right hand.

The powerpoint presentation shows the board, I couldn't tell if it had cuts or writing on it, but it looked like writing.

The knife on the ground was closed, it was not being used. I wonder if there were a pen or pencil on the ground nearby, maybe flung under one of the parked cars, that went unnoticed, because you see that sort of thing laying along the sidewalk all the time and don't think anything of it.

The poor dear lady. I do half expect that when she finds out what they did, she will jump up out of the bed on her good leg and slap her husband! I feel so bad for him, it must have been absolute agony knowing and not telling her what was going to happen, being afraid to tell her.

I have just recovered from the same infection she did not recover from. I believe the difference was that I did go to the doctor right away, and was on antibiotics within a few days of the infection; none of this "I don't want to go to the hospital over the holidays" for me. It was incredibly painful, too, I don't know how she stood it for so long. It's humbling when you actually see "but for the grace of god, there go I..." happen to you, and I wish it hadn't happened to her either.

Bless you, Dear Lady, heal well, and may your husband find some peace too.

Unstructured free time is vital to children's mental health. Whether they use that to run around, chat with friends, or just sit and dream. That's what "recess" is "a suspension of business or procedure often for rest or relaxation". NOT structured activities.

Who remembers watching clouds, kickball, blindmans bluff, catching falling leaves, taking the time to just BE...

SHAME on East Providence, SHAME on Rhode Island. Childhood is short enough.
