I also respectfully disagree. The very name "Tea Party" conjures a historical act that changed the face of this country. The name, the costumes, the flags - more now than ever we need to remember our forefathers and our country's roots. The visuals only aid in delivering this message to people who would otherwise not be interested.

Yep. And in addition, the taxdayteaparty.com site has contact information for local and state organizers. If you want to start your own tea party, these people are a wealth of information on how to secure your proper permits, insurance, etc. (if you're protesting on government property). I hear ya about all the complaining. Everyone is angry and there is very little focus going on so they all tend to take it out on each other. Just hang in there... :-)

Actually - I don't need to prove to you (Mr. "red-blooded American") that I care. I doubt your state is all flowers and rainbows - and I could probably stereotype you just as well. 31 tea parties on April 15th. 7 recall campaigns going on right now. Those of us who care have been fighting the degradation of this state for decades. Those who don't, enjoy complacency or just leave. Seriously, if you are a shining example of what a 9-12'er is all about, let me out now. But I doubt you are - cause I've met real 9-12'ers at California "We Surround Them" groups, recall efforts, and protests. Those of you outside of California who support our efforts (without insult or stereotypes) to bring this state back to its Reagan years - thank you. You are the true 9-12'ers who reflect the principles and values set here.

It is a bad situation all the way around - I agree. Oakland has had this problem for a few generations now - it didn't start yesterday. Anyone who has lived in a major city understands the "inner city" and the mindset that encompasses possibly the worst living conditions in the country. This mindset is prime territory for race baiters to come in, take advantage of the people (who are usually unemployed and angry), and direct them to do something they may not normally do. Then, the police end up in a situation where they have to protect people who don't trust or like them. It's a continuous cycle that happens in every big city in the USA. It's going to have to take the community members to get themselves out of this mess. In Oakand, the organizer of this protest was from Africa - he had no business being there. I wish that prominent people like Chris Gardner would go back to their communities and show a positive example to people who really don't believe there is any way out. It's not a matter of "just move", it's a psychology that needs to be defeated from within.

Here's an answer for you from someone who lives in California: We vote for people as a result of their campaign - just like every state in the union. While we could stereotype Ohio as being completely corrupt, Illinois as being run by Chicago mob members, and Pennsylvania as being run by violent union members, I'm sure the populations of those states would agree that they didn't vote for that. Houston is a sanctuary city - I doubt the people of Houston voted for that. You still can't own a gun in New York City. Usually candidates give a good speech and convince the population that they will actually represent the population - then they get into office and turn 180 degrees. Look at Schwarzenegger. The voters ousted Democrat Gray Davis and wanted someone who would represent them. Gov. Arnold said he was a Republican and that he would restore the state to its Reagan era. A LOT of us believed him. He got elected, turned socialist, and now we're trying to recall HIM. If you've never been here, then you don't know that this is a volatile state. We protest, we recall, we stage mid-term elections, we have special elections. We have a lot of RINOs in this state and we just want a representative government. Anyone outside of California does not understand Californians, judging by a lot of the comments here. The Californians who really love this state and want to restore it stay to fight - they find like-minded people who will fight with them. For God's sake, we are currently trying to recall the governor and several state senators and assembly members. ( Plug: http://totalrecall2009.com ). We are having 31 tea parties in this state on April 15th. I am becoming increasingly disappointed in the 912 Project. I'm sure Glenn didn't mean this forum to be a place where people rip each other apart. I've seen a lot of animosity on this site instead of unity. And it's disappointing, because if this is supposed to be the UNITING site, I'd hate to see what happens if we actually have to approach an enemy. We have a long way to go to achieve that 9-12 mindset. Just sayin'.

I can almost bet it was preplanned. Oakland has been in unrest since a BART officer shot a black man (it was videotaped - it appeared that the man was on the ground and complying & that the officer just stood up and shot him). I have friends on the Oakland police force and they agree that even though the police department isn't a part of BART (Bay Area Transit Rapid Transit), they are frequently targeted with all of the rioting going on. What is going on in Oakland is very similar to the L.A. riots after the Rodney King incident. And while the community is up in arms, there will be leech groups who will see this as an opportunistic time to protest. It's sad, but I can see a full-scale riot breaking out soon there.

Glenn Beck - The 912 Project : News From You

I disagree 50%. :-) Yes, there are bad unions. I've witnessed them first-hand. I've been forced to join them, forced by my company to videotape them (when I was salary) during a strike, and have watched union rallies that have left me embarrassed to be a part of a union (lack of professionalism & lack of tact). These unions are so big and so "organized", they are set up for corruption. However, I have witnessed workplace conditions that literally demanded a union's presence to rectify a poor employer's environment. This usually takes place in "company towns", where you don't have the wide variety of employment choices enjoyed in the city. You mentioned that "most companies want to do the best for the employees". Underline "most" in that statement. Most employers are good - some are not. There are always two sides to a story.

I hear these inane remarks all of the time. Dividing California doesn't solve anything. I live in the San Luis Obispo area and have chosen to stay and fight for my state. I'm tired of being run over by state government and leftists who are determined to take this state away from its conservative roots (its only been a blue state since 1992, folks). Everyone tells me to move to a "red" state. That won't accomplish anything - why give up what I love? I love California and am finding people every day who will stand by me (or at least give me moral support to) fight for her. If non-Cali people spent half the effort they put into insulting us to actually help us, who knows what incredible changes we could make here.

Wait, wait, wait - HR1444 did not pass the Senate. What passed was a motion for cloture on a modified HR1388 (merged with S277). Now, HR1388 (which now looks like an appropriations bill) will be put on the calendar for debate and final vote. HR1444 is in committee right now. However, this is the same committee that referred the original HR1388 to House floor.

Of HR1444, have you read Section 4(b) (5) The effect on the Nation, on those who serve, and on the families of those who serve, if all individuals in the United States were expected to perform national service or were required to perform a certain amount of national service. (6) Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds. (7) The need for a public service academy, a 4-year institution that offers a federally funded undergraduate education with a focus on training future public sector leaders. I'm curious as to your opinion - these 3 items, to me, are a little concerning.

Okay - this is getting ridiculous... Glenn covered HR 1388 on his show today and said that all of the internet hype over it was unfounded and overblown. I believe that once Glenn got on this bill and had Joe research it, section 6104 (the "mandatory" and "required" language surrounding volunteerism) had been removed and the bill merged with S 277 for the Senate's vote. The bill now going through the Senate has been cleaned, though I'd still recommend we watch it in case it changes again. As proof that this is not going away, a new bill has been introduced and is now in committee. Not surprisingly, it IS Section 6104. The new bill is HR 1444 and you can find it here from govtrack.us: http://tinyurl.com/cn3w9b Granted, it is currently in committee. We can ensure it's death in committee by making noise about this now. Glenn! Joe! If you're reading - this new bill is simply the section of HR 1388 everyone was yelling about. Please read this bill. Thanks!

I just wanted to post this as a matter of record. I work at a university and have a TON of those US Constitution booklets. As some students are afraid to request a booklet and I don't have the time to stand out there and hand these out, I have a plastic file holder outside my office. I'm going to put several booklets in there and post a note on the box that reads: "Every person should know his/her rights as protected by the U.S. Constitution. These booklets reprint the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. That’s all. They don’t endorse a party or political figure – they’re just your rights as a U.S. Citizen. If would like a copy of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, feel free to take one." As I signed a state oath that required me to "uphold the state and U.S. Constitutions", I should be safe doing this. But if it brings a firestorm, I wanted to have a written record that I did this NOT to be political, but to truly follow that oath I signed in order to be a public employee. Okay, that's it. Carry on.... :-)

Good luck to both of you - definitely try for the tea party in Bakersfield - it should be huge. We're hosting one in Atascadero and it looks like it will be a great turnout. In Cali, we have so many reasons to protest. Between our new state taxes being the highest in the union (as of 4/1), the state govt trying to force prop 1A down our throats (which would extend the taxes another 2 years), the dissatisfaction of Schwarzenegger et. al - and national issues on top of THAT? Yeah - we'll be tea-partying for quite a while here.

I heard that Glenn actually talked about HR 1388 during his Friday show and asked Joe (resident lawyer) to look at the bill. He was going to discuss it on Monday the 23rd. Does anyone know if he actually got back to it? Also, another 9-12'er posted that Michael Savage covered this on Friday. BTW, the motion for cloture was passed last night by a vote of 74-14, 11% not voting. If you read through the one-hour allotment of speeches, you'll find that not one dissenting speech was allowed - namely because it seems Orin Hatch can't shut up. He used most of the time allotted, waxing poetic about the Kennedy-Shriver commitment to volunteerism. Which is nice - but doesn't even approach this bill and its details. At the beginning of the debate period, a motion was made to move the vote up from 6:00pm to 5:45pm and to "drag the voting out" so that Senators who thought the vote was at 6pm and would be arriving then, could vote. Umm. yeah.
