Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Bowl talk

beaverteeth, man have some faith. The game at UW was scary before it even started. A lot of reasons why we were 1pt underdogs in that game. Lockers ability (which was the reason they won), road game in Seattle, UW has a case of the Dr Jekyll/ Mr Hyde (beat SC in the Coliseum, lost to ASU at home). My point is that the game at Cal will be much more telling about this team. The Cal game comes after a bye week, its at home, second game in a row without James (but this time there's ample time to prepare the backups). If the bye week doesn't do what its supposed to do: rest, re focus, get better as an individual as well as team play, give the coaches plenty of game tape to study and make scheme changes, then I would be worried about this team. Cal is beatable, UCLA is very beatable, WAZZU....., Stanford doesnt play spread *but* Luck does run.... they are still beatable (more so than Boise was and probably Arizona), SC is scary but they are definitely beatable (good offense, terrible defense, nothing to play for but pride, sandwiched between AZ and ND games, in State of Oregon where they havnt won in forever, in November no less (Southern Cal meet Northwest weather)), and finally Oregon. The Civil War Is Always Winnable and Its About Damn Time We Gave Them Some Long Over Due Pay Back. Highly ranked teams Do Not Survive In Corvallis!! Giant Killers Baby!! Have Some Faith In This Team. GO BEAVS!!!

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Paea frustrated

I agree, its not racist when its one of the schools colors, and its also not racist when its Not a school color (Oregon). The whole idea of it being racist is just stupid. Lets Black out SC! But, I have a lot of faith in the coaches getting these kids to improve week to week, but I dont really have faith in them taking chances with moving people. In Eugene I see Kelly moving people around, putting his best players and athletes on the field. I just dont see that in Corvallis, for instance the offensive line. At the beginning of the season coaches were debating who should start and maybe moving one or two guys in order to get the best five linemen on the field. They seemed to scrap that and go "the safe rout." I love Oregon State and I like the coaches a lot, but some things confuse me... GO BEAVS!!! NEED this Win

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Players to watch

Call me excited for football, but this really does feel like a special year is about to unfold. Season tickets are selling at all-time-record pace, seats were re-priced (Fill Reser!!), one game away from back-to-back Rose Bowls the past two years (the last time we could say "back-to-back" anything, was for National Championships). A senior James Rodgers and Heisman hopeful Jacquizz, along with a stable of other offensive weapons (the difference between good and great lies on Katz). Despite the two departures, i think the defense will be hugely improved. the line is better equipped and faster, the line backers are deep with promise, and the back field is veteran and talented. CANT... WAIT.... LONGERRRRR when was the last time there was this much excitement and hope for the new season? it seems that the program is finally off the "turnaround" and is now on the path to "the promised land."

yeah i dont quite understand how Quizz is a second teamer. aside from measurables, what hes done on the field is clearly enough to put him atop the RB list in the Pac

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Checking in

great vids, got me pumped, and made me think about the upcoming season. Cliff, what do you expect to see from Katz? honestly i can easily see a great or typical rookie season from him. Riley is a smart guy and while Quizz is nicknamed the money, i think Riley knows his money will be with Katz's performance this year. that makes me think that Katz will be fine tuned (enough) and more than ready. another plus is the fact that hes Not a frosh, which means hes had time to learn the system and gell with the team. iv also heard that Katz has always risen to the next level when he plays on a big stage. i remain grounded though, because this will be his first year starting. what are your thoughts?

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Minor triple, Heisman

you forget that Baylor just went farther in the NCAA tourney than any other B12 school and is better than most other teams in football. theres no doubt that Kansas is a more premier basketball school, but the conference is a lot deeper in some areas than people think. im not happy that now we're stuck with Colorado and possibly Utah. sure it makes our television pitch better, but it screws up the conference with most likely having a north an south division. hears to the last "normal" times GO BEAVS!

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Pac-10 expansion (video update)

id say that Nebraska is gonna officially move next, then it is only a matter of time before the rest jump ship. im also all for it, the deficit at OSU isnt gonna go away any time soon without expansion. and if it helps keep Craig Robinson, with building the practice facility, its even better. the future sure will be interesting, maybe its time for Riley to nab one or two more 4 star recruits.... GO BEAVS!

i completely agree. if theres one thing that i wish we were more like the U of O, it would be marketing. i dont think we'll ever have the engine that powers them, but really, come on beavs! i find it really easy to be clever/ cool/ fun with marketing. the ideas and potential are endless, theres no reason we cant and shouldnt be better.... however i am orange, and remind people of it every day in Eugene haha

Glad to hear that Katz is performing well, im sure his protection will be better with two starters coming back in the fall. the defense has had a lot of success throughout the spring. I hope its all good enough for the toughest non conference schedule since @LSU, @Boise

i know its early, but do you think that its gonna turn out Wheaton starting with Catchings coming in situational? kinda like Kjos, Morales, and Nicholes? personally, i hope it does turn out that way. i think the defenses would have fits with the option of Rodgers/ Wheaton sweeps, bishop the uber athletic x-factor (when James isnt). the threat of both Bishop and Wheaton going deep at any time should be extremely dangerous.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: More on McCants

definitely. i think overall we'll be fine with the combination of McCants, Stevenson, Jenkins. but it would be really nice, especially for him, if Ryan is able to reach some of that potential. it would make the Beavs so much better to have a sure handed power runner and a back up just about like Quizz.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Corner development

i agree that Doc has been inconsistent in his career, but towards the end of the season he started pickin it up and made some unbelievable plays. i think we need to see a lot of him in all situations before we can make that jump to Poyer. I think as long as Poyer is a reliable 3rd guy, we can use Doc on the tall-deep threat receivers, and Hardin locks down the other guy, we should be in outstanding shape. Cliff, do you think Hardin is fast enough to cover the faster guys in the pac? iv always kinda wanted him to be a safety that plays close to a LB, for run support and especially for spread teams. last year when he was in for Stanford, the run support was much better.

Cliff Kirkpatrick : Cliff: Riley, Davis on Quizz

i totally agree that being compared to Jackson didnt help at all, but i completely disagree with what you said after that. i think his problem has been he doesnt hit the hole hard, he tries to make one or two moves an then hit the hole. hes too slow to try and dance, he needs to just go tank style and bust through. the best that hes looked has been when he takes charge and hits the hole, breaking arm tackles. quizz is the better dancer, making sharp cuts and trying to make tacklers miss, thats just not what Mccants' body is built for

thanks Cliff, as much as i want them to be winners, its the stories about the OSU family that really make me proud to be a Beaver. its more than just an atmosphere, its a true feeling and belief that teams are your extended family. im a bball coach at South Eugene and we really stress relying on your teammates and coaches when you need it, as well as treating everyone with equal respect.

had to create an account just to say this: every time i read or hear about the punting/kicking situation in the LV Bowl, i always cringe and think about BYU. they had to punt and kick, and the wind Did Not affect them. why? because they made changes and started punting line drives. the game killed me, but more so was the fact that we just didnt make the right changes. i couldnt believe that we were still punting high and not keeping it low. little things like that could very well have added to BYU's momentum swing. ill be commenting a lot more now lol GO BEAVS!
