TVYFL Parent -- You are right On!!! Thank you for providing some reason here
When I coached TVYFL teams I had a few boys from one district that for whatever reason wanted to play for our district.

If their football league was willing to sign the waivers -- which our President made sure to ask for signatures -- they played for us. If the league wouldn't sign the waiver -- then they didn't play for us. Its really very simple.

WLYF needs to follow the rules - stop pointing fingers at everyone else for your mistake and misinformation. You all must be new to the TVYFL program and to youth football. Otherwise you would understand how important this policy is.

Criticizing people who have worked hard and voluteered their time for 3 to 4 months, and followed the rules doesn't carry much water. I'm sorry for your problem, but as TVYFL Parent says, best start getting ready for next year. This year is over for you.

There are several kids that went to Athey Creek Middle School (in West Linn) that because of where they lived attended Wilsonville HS.

Under TVYFL rules, the HS boundaries decide where the boys must play their YOUTH football -- even if they don't end up going to that HS. Based on the boundaries, per the TVYFL bylaws, those players needed a waiver from Wilsonville to play youth football for WL.

Had WLYF gotten the waivers and followed the rules you would be in the playoffs.

Why should the other 34 programs bend the rules for WL just because you decided to ignore them even after your president was warned?

I know its a tough lesson. And it doesn't seem fair - but rules is rules. Hopefully you all learned your lesson and next year will follow the rules. If you don't like the rule, get involved and try to get the rule changed.

Complaining now after you got caught with your hand in the cookie jar is both poor sportsmanship and sounds a lot like "sour grapes".

But the point is -- the kids in question will be going to High School in Wilsonville.

That is what the TVYFL rule is based on. You are to play for the youth team where you will be going to HS. Its based on those boundaries -- it may not matter if you have a WL address. Heck, kids in Charbonneau have a Wilsonville address, but go to HS in Canby -- so they play for Canby Youth Football.

Unless you obtain a signed waiver from the Wilsonville Youth Football prior to the season, you have to play for Wilsonville Youth Football. If you get the signed waiver -- then you are free to play for WLYF.

Again, rules are rules. Should they be changed -- I have no idea.

Its too bad for the WL players -- apparently WLYF didn't follow the rules.

You are right on. Having coached youth football and knowing how judicious the TVYFL is on rules, if West Linn had been playing by the rules, the vote at the recent TVYFL meeting would NOT have been 33 to 1.

It is about the kids -- but this is about kids learning to play by the rules. If the adults in this case broke the rules, and the kids have to pay the price -- it will be a painful lesson to all. Many times the lessons learned that are the most painful are the ones that are remembered.

If a little more "tough love" was administered in our overly permissive society maybe our jails and prisons wouldn't be so overcrowded.

Good idea if the schools will buy and maintain good equipment. I was a coach in one ot the TVYFL divisions when our middle school let the youth program take over the 7th and 8th grade middle school football program. The school district gave us the equipment -- but it was old, unsafe and not usable.

Plus, I know we had far better coaches and coaching in the TVYFL programs than the school district had. Again, if the district will pay for high caliber coaches at the middle school level -- this idea will work. If not, then just follow TVYFL boundary and waiver rules and that solves the problem.
