IE... they gave up looking and let their unemployment expire. Everyone must remember that the jobs numbers need to be at +300,000 a month (THAT IS A PLUS SIGN) in order to just stay even. Anything less is job loss. So in real terms our economy shed or didn't create almost half a million jobs that it has to just to stay flatline. Real unemployment + underemployment (people who took temporary part time jobs due to the lack of ability to find a real job) is hovering around 20% depending on whose figures you use. That is one in five Americans are under direct distress from an economic standpoint. 50% of homeowners are under water on their mortgages, effectively shrinking the housing market by 50% and every one of those people is a foreclosure waiting to happen. Dump on top of that the massive amount of money that is being printed (read inflation) the high cost of oil, cap & tax (the largest tax increase in the history of the world), healthcare takeover...errrr 'reform' (the second largest tax increase in American history), and this administrations general assault on capitalism, I would say things look wunderbar (that is 'wonderful' for you non-German speakers out there).
