The "amazing" quality of life we enjoy is almost totally laid at the feet of capitalism. No other country in the world enjoys the American standard of living. Yes, some of what government does is useful. But, the founding fathers are rolling in their graves at the idea that half of America pays no income tax when the other half does. That half of America is on the dole, by one form or another. And that is what rail transit is. The dole. Ferries, too. The Washington State budget shows that over half of transportation spending in this state goes to public transportation. Such a waste. Especially rail and ferries. People who make a conscious decision to live on an island should NOT have that choice subsidized by the rest of us. And the idiots who support rail transit, a system that by logic and fact can never move more than low single digit numbers of trips in Pugetropolis, make real pross difficult if not impossible.

No government anywhere on earth makes anything. They can only transfer wealth by forcibly taking it from one group and using or keeping it for themselves. More "efficient" public transportation in Europe? Try travelling away from a large urban area. A poor roads system and extremely high inflation as a result. The most efficient transportation system is the one that results in the most choices. That would be a roads system. As infinitely variable as the individual user: Leave when you want and (basically) arrive when you want. The more constricted a system, the less efficient, affordable and scaleable. Busses are far more scaleable than trains and can adapt to nearly any road. Trains are fixed which completely limits scope and travel in a stuck, narrow path with limited scaleability for access. If the train is too long (too many cars), it takes longer to board and unboard further reducing efficiency. The greatest reason for America's economic dominance of the last century was the ability of the individual to commit commerce on an immediate and indeterminate schedule. Solely because of the lowered restrictions on the automobile. The more central planning and the fewer choices for transportation (and any other commodity, like health care) the less wealth generation and freedom a society has. Inarguable.

Trip numbers for the Everett-Olympia region on all surface streets (less transit) easily exceeds 20 million trips per day. Probably closer to 40 million. Each UPS or FedEx driver makes hundreds of trips. Every stop to the next counts as a trip. Just. Like. Metro. So, Metro's ridership falls right in line with the numbers out of KC or Olympia. Barely more than 2% of ALL trips in the Puget Sound Region are on mass transit. Buses, trains, whatever. Save money. Save time. Grow the economy. Grow business. Save lives. BUILD MORE ROADS!

What the overwhelming majority of citizens want and DEMAND is that priorities such as murder, rape, robbery, arson, burglary, car theft, pedophilia, embezzlement, etc, etc, be addressed LONG BEFORE the SPD or ANY agency put effort into revenue enhancement. Because, when you get down to it, that's all it ever is really about. Not public safety. The several unsolved murders in this area have a historically nasty habit of becoming serial killings. Cops should be focused on solving every last major crime before a single second is devoted to jaywalking. Otherwise, there can be no argument that it is always and only about enriching the coffers of the local PD.

Since the APD is using chemicals that do not readily evacuate after an insignificant amount of time, but instead are more akin to a meth-house, then the APD should be fined and CRIMINALLY charged for using illegal chemicals!
