Just to chuck a rock into this foetid swamp that is the Home Office, a certain T.May lasted rather a long time with the nice Sir Philip. I wonder why?

Hello Mark, Can I float an idea with you? Amongst all these new appointments, how about offering Nigel Farage a peerage? This would do several things. It would recognise his outstanding and undoubted contribution to our recent political history, it would impress and help trading links with the US and, especially, with his friend Donald Trump and lastly may negate the threat of Nigel Farage being elected to Parliament.

Elaine, the other possible problem with Rory Stewart that I haven't heard anyone else mention relates to his oft quoted CV that he once served in the military.

So far as I know, he joined as a short service 2nd Lieutenant in the Black Watch on probation but left after only 5 months. This was during a gap year from his studies and as far as I can remember short service recruits were given a financial bounty as an inducement to sign up. (I could be wrong on this last bit though).

Lastly, according to his Wiki entry, he was a member of the labour party during his younger years.
