Have You Met Ted - The How I Met Your Mother Blog : You Must Party Down

Hard to say, since it's been getting progressively better, but probably a tie between 4 and 5. Roman's rant about how fantasy and sci fi are totally different was hilarious, as was Constance's "what's ecstasy?" and her barnyard animal thing from episode 4. I'm really glad it's on cable, they don't have to hold back.

I"ve been a fan of Lizzy Caplan since Mean Girls as well. I will quote that movie for the rest of my life.

Thank you for this. I fucking love Party Down. I started watching it because of all the Veronica Mars connections (season 1 of VM is the best seasons of TV I have ever seen), and it did not disappoint. Every episode has been excellent so far.

Oh, and my two favourite lines from the episode (and it was hard to choose): "Ted honey, go outside and bite the curb. I'll be out in a minute." "I love how you live in a dorm, it's SO American. It's like, let's eat baloney sandwiches and be racist!"

I love pretentious Ted because he's the worst kind of douche- the guy who think's he's high cultured but is quite wrong. It's not encyclopAYdia, his French accent sucks, he pronounced the Italian stuff wrong last night, etc. Everyone knows someone who is at least a little bit like that.

Or maybe he still IS stalking her and he's so god at it she hasn't found out yet. ;) Then again, I think Scooer lacks the finesse necessary to pull that off.

Thanks for the info, JD! Although I have to say, I don't know whether I even want 8 years of this show, even though I love it. I cannot think of a single TV show that lasted that long which didn't have a decline in quality towards the end.

I like the new layout. Hope you're making buckets of cash through more ads, JD (sadly unlikely, unless they are miniature buckets)! BTW, I clicked on the "new to the site" thing which I'd never noticed before and stumbled upon those Season vs. Season evaluations, which are pretty cool. I don't fault you for stopping them, though, that must've been really time consuming.

Have You Met Ted - The How I Met Your Mother Blog : Season 4, Episode 13: Three Days of Snow Discussion

I think the clothing changes are really just about the HIMYM wardrobe dept having a bigger budget. When you rewatch season 1 both Lily and Robin wear pretty casual, everyday stuff that most people would wear. It was only in mid-S2 to season 3 that they started wearing really pretty clothes (Lily in particular-- which they explained with the credit card debt thing, thankfully). Lately I think Robin's been wearing more casual stuff just because she has a job-- although I know I madly heart that brown leather (?) jacket she's been wearing all season.

The thermostat/intercom thing was stupid, but I think that when she was arguing with Marshall she was just on a rant and wasn't listening to his repeated warnings about the snow plow. She seemed genuinely shocked/freaked out when it went by.

I agree with pretty much everything you say, but here's my question: did people really find things in this show (pre-S4) so hard to follow? I watched the pilot, then only watched the show sporadically till season 3, but I never found the episodes I managed to catch hard to understand. The serialised aspect isn't really that complex seeing as SagetTed gives us a little exposition anyway. Whenever my friends talk about not liking this show, they don't talk about how the storylines are complicated-- most people just hate the laugh track (and so do I, when I notice it), which doesn't appeal to as many viewers in the post-Friends era.

I agree completely. The whole "HIMYM" concept only really lends itself to a couple of seasons, but given its current ratings it looks like it'll go for at least six (barring a precipitous ratings drop next year, I guess), and to make the concept last that long the writers will have to be careful. I personally don't care about who the mother is, but I know that a lot of people do, and up till this year the show had a wonderful flow to it: Robin --> Tattoo Girl/Mandy Moore --> Stella And now that Ted and Stella have severed ties completely it's hard to see where they'll go next. I completely agree that this season feels like it's going nowhere, and my theory is that it's because it doesn't have an overarching theme so far. S1 was about Ted's unrequited love for Robin, S2 was their relationship, S3 was about Ted getting over Robin and dealing with just being friends with her. So far the first third or so of S4 dealt with Stella, but the next third has been quite patchy- you'd expect it to deal with him trying to move on, but Ted moved on really, really fast and ever since 4.06 I completely agree that the show has been directionless. I know that Bays and Thomas decided to go about this season differently-- with more standalones, less serialised plots, etc-- but it still needs an overall theme to tie them together. Rewatching all 4 seasons to date will be really strange once one hits the post-Shelter Island episodes.

JD, great recap! I laughed out loud at both the Willy Wonka comment (so true) and the whole "girls secretly all hate each other anyway" thing at the end (not true at all! but as a girl I guess I'm biased). Also laughed at you spelling "weird" as "wierd" considering Robin's line this week. If that was intentional, huge pat on the back to you, dude. :)
