Chuck Westbrook's Blog : How to Fight Frustration

I agree with you about ease, but I think that 6 is probably the least potent of the responses. If you can learn to adjust those other areas of your life, you are going to be dramatically changing your disposition to be more peaceful and probably more happy. Again, not easy, but a worthwhile goal. Thank you for your comment.

Chuck Westbrook's Blog : Analyzing and Reworking My Writing Process

Thanks, Melissa. One other thing I did not mention is that this approach tries my patience a little bit because it's a lot more work. On the other hand, a lot more gets done, so that's good. And the thing I've learned about perfection in just about anything is that there's almost no substitute for sheer time-spent and volume produced. Whether it's food, music, carpentry, baseball--simply doing more of it is going to make you better faster than trying to crawl perfectly. In fact, my success in music was in part due to frequency of playing but in part due to my willingness to tackle music much too hard for me and just push on despite mistakes.

Thanks, Kelly. It's interesting because though I wrote that post a while ago, the topic of practice is fresh on my mind right now. I appreciate your comments.

I can't think of many things I'd be less interested in owning than an American Idol DVD. I'd like to talk about The Wire next time I see you. I've been blown away by it so far; I'm about a third of the way through the second season.

Thanks, Alan. Stay tuned for the next post on this subject. I'm going to do some thinking about what something like this might actually look like. I'll be interested in your thoughts there.

Darin, following you is like following ESPN or something. You're like some sort of sports news service on there. I've got you over on facebook and on buzz now too. What more do you need?

My reaction to that kind of stress has typically been paralysis. That's part of what I'm working on and why I've let some things slide. If I can't do it all, I'll just focus on doing what matters most.

The narrative of Lost is a good example of this idea too... *potential spoiler if someone hasn't seen the first episode of the 6th season* We see a world where the plane doesn't crash, and most of the characters are obviously worse off than they are after the struggles and the mess of the island and the crash.

Thank you, Laurel. That's nice of you. I actually just published a rant that's anything but bite-sized. I've been scarce on blogging lately because my time has been needed elsewhere, but I intend to pick it back up as time allows.

And I agree about my dad--I'm lucky to have had great parents which have now become friends as well.
