This is probably one of the the hardest question to answer in life. If it were me i would choose the significant other.. sorry mom but i would have to go with somebody i could reproduce normally with and fill at least two out of the three choices. I would obviously feel terrible picking one of the three but if the decision needs to be made that's what I am going to do. This would easily be one of the hardest decisions anybody would have to make ever in their life. I feel like choosing my significant other would be the best choice and the best possible combinations would come out of it. I would feel terrible letting my kid go but the least my wife could do for saving her life would be to born me another child... maybe even a better one hopefully a boy or twin boys. I am greatful that this is not a choice that I have ever had to make, and it really hurts me to even have to answer it. Your significant other is the one you are going to spend your life with, from the day you meet until death, and no one else can share that bond with you. I know my mother brought me into this world as a little child and made me into the person that I am today, but eventually I am going to have to make my own life with a women who I am going to spend eternity with. As for my child, I could never bear the burden of losing them, but it is nothing I have ever experienced and it's honestly hard to imagine anything like that ever happening. These are the people that mean the most to me in this world, and it would be almost impossible for me to imagine a world where I am deprived of even one of them. It may be surprising that even though I have not found my significant other, they are the one I am choosing for this blog. This is because I have this question has made me think deeply about life, and what it truly means to be alive. No one knows what really happens after death, and the slightest thought of it scares me beyond anything. The only one in this study who I actually have right now is my mom, and I know she is much older than me and won't be on this Earth forever, but the thought of that makes me so upset. It is much easier to live without these thoughts floating through my brain but it's a reality that I no matter what will have to deal with. So, in conclusion, this is not a question I am comfortable answering, but as of now this is the most truthful answer I can give.
First off I think that this video was hilarious and i enjoyed every second of it. If you didn't find it funny then you have no sense of good humor. I bet that if it were the other way around all the Asian's would have had a good laugh at a white man looking like a fool in a Chinese interview. Don't even get me started on the fact that the Asian people interviewed have no idea who the Trojans are... or what football even was. So maybe its a little immature to laugh at the funny Asian accents in some of the conversations throughout the newscast. The white guy was chosen on for laughing because its also easy to accuse the white guy for being racist, and the thing is most people wouldn't have an answer if they were called on and asked why they were laughing at the video. But in every culture the incorrect saying or funny sounding saying by somebody of a different culture has got to be funny. The perfect movie comparison would be Ace Ventura Pet Detective, when he meets the villagers and makes a fool of himself. The difference between cultures in this movie is a little too obvious but I'm sure that confrontations of this happen every day around the world.
I don't think that it was wrong for the Asian kid to laugh because if he was from Asia and had to learn the English language and knows how hard it is to actually learn to say it right. I guess laughing can be taken as rude but from me at least the rudeness is not intentional and purely just for the laugh.
Some people could say the reporter was being racist but i think he was actually just pointing the lack of knowledge Asians have on football, even at the school the are attending and surrounded by almost half the school year. The reporter should have been a little more nice asking the questions, like for example not use a sarcastic voice for the majority of the interviews or mistake what one of the interviewees said for bad mitten.. that wasn't so cool.
Overall I think that this video was not meant to be racist but it actually came out a little bit racist. Any who, if anybody was offended by this video then they are why too serious about everything in life and need to chill out.. maybe go smoke some weed then watch this video then you'd laugh like a person with a good sense of humor. I don't have much more to say about this topic and found it kind of hard to write the assigned four hundred and fifty word minimum. I think people should be able to laugh at video if they find it funny, and shouldn't have to be questioned about why they found a certain thing funny that pretty much the whole class thought was funny.
The question is how can we change racial discrimination and what can we do as a whole to stop this? I thought about this question for awhile because it seems easy to answer but in reality it isn't. People can say what they want on how to change racial discrimination but until something is actually done and word is spread around the country and world then all this talk is no good. Everybody in this world is somewhat racist, it just depends on how racist a person is. Some people are actually racist and hate anybody of any race besides white, these people are just terrible people and have no respect for themselves or this country. Our president is half black....... so i don't see how people can still be hateful racists. We have to change the meaning of the word racism from being a terrible thing, too just seeing people as who they are and sure people can see skin color and people always will. But that is as far as we can let racism go... even for black people too. When people talk about racism we usually think white people did something wrong. Black people are racist towards white people too, and I believe that if we can stop treating each other like white and black and Mexican people then we can change the meaning of racism. There is no way to completely take racism out of this world but trying to see people for more then just their skin color. Of course people are going to see people's skin color but we just have to see people as equal to all no matter what skin color.
Before entering Soc119 I never really thought about the other side of the story, like how people being racist really hurts the progress of African Americans being equal to white people. Like how it always feels like cops are going after black people rather then white people. Or how a white person is more likely to get a house listing if a white and black person are applying for it, and even some jobs. The color of somebody's skin shouldn't be involved in whether or not somebody gets a job or a house or evening being arrested. Racial discrimination is keeping poor cities like Camden, NJ in the dumps of social cities, changing the city and giving opportunity to blacks that had none to begin with, will help change racial discrimination and show that just because somebody's skin color is different then yours, doesn't mean that they deserve less opportunity then the other.
I hope and believe that in the future racial discrimination will seize to exist and everybody will live as one in the most diverse and non violent country, but not only this country but all will realize the importance of zero racial discrimination.
Jeremy Lin is that dude.... simply put. Any player who puts up these statistics up consistently would get attention. The fact that he is Asian gives him that extra pizzazz and makes people love him. There are only a handful of Asian players in the league and having Jeremy Lin play like an all star after being treated like trash by two other teams and was under looked by all Division I teams besides Harvard. Other then Yao Ming, which if he wasn't a superstar then he should have been labeled a failure at life being 7'6" and not good at basketball. The fact that Jeremy Lin is an average looking Asian and American puts him in the category where people can feel like he is just an average guy tearing up NBA All Stars night after night after night. Lin proves some Asian stereotypes wrong like the fact that Asians can't drive, he attacks the hole in basketball better then most NBA players. He is as versatile as Steve Nash passing, shooting and taking it to the basket. He can take over a game like he has proved several times already, he can hit the game winning shot when the teams main player is out. Jeremy Lin's only problem may be that he turns the ball over too much. To end this blog with a stereotype, the reason he turns the ball over so much is the fact that he cant see the whole court when looking straight. I like Jeremy Lin as much as the next guy and couldn't seriously say something to offend him or talk shit on him. When Flyod Mayweather stated that the only reason Jeremy Lin was getting attention was because he was Asian and that black people do that every night with out recognition. This may be the the dumbest thing anyone has said about sports. First off, African American's are acknowledged every single day on sportscenter for doing what Jeremy Lin does. Second, Jeremy Lin broke an NBA record for most points in the first five games of his career. Every single player in the NBA today had a chance at this record but none did it, Jeremy Lin did. I'm not sure if Jeremy can keep this up all season but I hope he does. LINSANITY!!
This a really good topic to discuss and i am going to have to agree with Sam and say that white people do shy away from the topic of race. I hate to say it but it happens to me sometimes and I'm sure it has happen to the majority of white people. The question is why do we do it? The fact is that we shouldn't feel like this when race is brought up. I feel like black people use racism to their advantage and make us feel bad whenever racism is brought up. i believe i could hardly be called a racist but everybody has a certain amount of racism in them its just thought about in different ways. Some people have hate towards black but i think the majority of whites realize that we are equal and there is no difference between us besides shades of skin. I think white people don't have a problem with African Americans because why would they elect have a black man running the country. Their is still no answer on why white people are shy to subject of race. I mean we feel bad but what can we do about it? Nothing is the correct answer. Its not our fault that generations ago white people had slaves and treated African Americans terribly. We weren't there to stop it so theres nothing we can do. Black people sometimes pull the race card to quickly for no reasons just to make us feel guilty but for what? what do they get out of it? I don't see why they do but its not fair. White people in this day and age should not feel bad because there is nothing to feel shy about when talking about race and its almost our fault for putting race on the level to where people feel awkward to talk about it. To sum this answer up there should not be a reason for white people to feel shy when talking about race, its almost natural to feel awkward when talking about depending on where you grew up and how you were raised has a huge play in this question. I grew up in a suburb and went to a public school and associated with black people before i even knew what racism was. But it could be different for a kid from central PA who has never really encountered a black person before in their lives. Thoughts on not knowing how to talk about race to a black person could be a little awkward for them at first. The fact that everybody is a little racist plays a role in why white people are shy about the topic of race and they don't express themselves like black people... like they should.
To me the American Dream has become treated like more of a common lifestyle for the majority of Americans today. Its common for people to go to college and get job, have a family and live happily ever after. The American Dream is more of a dream for people not living in America and are not a custom to our lifestyle and our daily routines we do everyday. The definition of the American Dream is different to everybody and the conditions they are in has a very big effect their own definition of the American Dream. My definition of the American Dream is to go to college, get a job, and have a family. This is a common american dream and one of the more basic ones. Any one can have the American Dream and that is the good part of being an American and having people of different countries want the lifestyle that is pretty much set up for people in America. Every American has a dream for their life and that is their own American Dream.
