To my knowledge spirit only works on activated phones. Does the phone show the emergency calls only screen? If it does, you might have to request the seller the sim from the official carrier (it doesnt have to be an active number, just the sim).

Yes you can. The way I see it you need to get a 4.0 custom restore and restore you iphone 3gs with it while its is in recovery mode. I would suggest you make a custom restore yourself on a mac or get it from a verified source. This is how I jb my 3gs on ios 4.0

I see that your model starts from MC, to my knowledge it is the one with the new bootrom. I am pretty sure you can't upgrade to 3.1.3 and also there is no jailbreak for 3gs mc on 4.0. If you need the jailbreak. I suggest you use blackra1n on 3.1.2. Also once you use it, you phone will enter recovery mode everytime you reboot it. To exit it, you will have to connect your phone to you computer and run blackra1n to get everything back to normal.

I would just remove ultrasn0w and install it again after a reboot. I used to have issues like that. But this method usually fixed them for me.

What I can suggest is that you go back to 3.1.2 if its possible. The jailbreak with blackra1n and restore to 4.0 with custom firmware created by pwnage tool. I dont know whether it would work but you can always give it a shot.

Well dev team will release new software once they create it. For now you can either revert to 3.1.3 if you have SHSHs hashed and jailbreak it with spirit.

Yes it is possible. I too upgraded to 4.0 (official). I used my SHSHs from Saurik's Server to downgrade to 3.1.2. Then I used blackra1n to jailbreak the phone. After that I restored a Custom 4.0 using recovery mode on my 3GS. It works. You just need a custom firmware for 4.0 which you can create using Pwnage 4.01 on Mac.

Hi everyone, I need some help. I am currently using an iPhone 3GS with 4.0 (official firmware). Is dev team working on a version of redsn0w that will jailbreak it? I have my phone hashed for 3.1.2. Is it possible for me to revert back to 3.1.2, use blackra1n to jailbreak and then create a custom firmware using pwnage tool 4.01 and get the jailbreak? I dont wanna brick my phone by following a wrong procedure. Thanks

Perfect!! Worked for me on my 3GS. The only thing that was wrong was I did not receive my carrier logo. I resolved that with an app from cydia. Otherwise everything seems fine.

Hi, Can anyone help me out? I have an iPhone 3GS 32GB jailbroken with redsnow 0.8 I then unlocked it with ultrasnow My OS is 3.0.1 Whenever I put a new sim card in that is of a different network, I get the message 'Different Sim Detected', and I can only make an emergency call. There is an image showing me to connect to iTunes. How do I go about getting rid of that message. I have check for solutions online. Most of them point towards restoring the phone from iTunes. If I restore the phone, I am worried that I will get updated to 3.1. I downloaded the 3.0 firmware, but how do I restore to that. I pressed shift + restore, but it says Apple server will verify the update.
