South Park as real boys was already done in Season 9 Episode 13 - Free Willzyx. In this episode there was a scene where the Sea Park announcers went to search and ask people around at the South Park town for the boys that are responsible for the missing whale. They made sketches of Stan, Eric, Kenny and Kyle which portrayed them as realistic boys.

/Film : This Week in DVD: The Day the Earth Stood Still, Yes Man, Doubt, Bedtime Stories, and More

I also liked Yes Man. It's really a decent movie. Considering the 7.2 rating on imdb, it seems a lot of people liked it too. I'd say it's worth at least a rental. Also, the Liar Liar comparison is quite unfair. That one was more of a slapstick comedy, while this one is a bit more deeper movie about taking chances. And even if you don't care for the message, it's still an entertaining movie. Zooey Deschanel's songs in particular are absolutely hilarious.

/Film : Avatar's Budget Exceeds $300 Million! Most Expensive Movie of All Time?

3D looks pretty good to me, from what I've seen so far. It's really something different and I can't wait for it to become mainstream and widespread. That being said, technology will always improve and it's pointless to just sit there and whine about it. What are you going to do when holography comes along, complain how much you paid on your giant 3D screen? Or when Matrix-like, immersive VR hits, you'll tell us what a gimmick it is compared to your new holodeck? I say you enjoy your HDTV for now, and years later, when 3D technology will have matured and be at its peak (and also cheaper), buy a 3D screen.

/Film : 50 Cent Replaces Forest Whitaker in The Expendables?

In case you haven't read Stallone's letter on AICN, here's how he defended his choice: "The anger of the casting of 50 Cent is understandable, but not fair. A player is only as good as his coach. If a man can communicate in one medium, he can communicate in another if his strengths are brought out and he has the support of well-wishers. So, trust me, the change of Forest Whitaker to 50 Cent AKA Curtis Jackson is a good one. No one thought Dolph Lundgren was a good choice for ROCKY or Mr. T. Carl Weathers was an afterthought when Ken Naughton fell out. The same with Talia Shire and Richard Crenna, who was known as a comedic actor, not a serious one." I think he's making a mistake. He has too much faith in 50 Cent's abillities - and also in himself as a coach.

/Film : Batmobile for Sale

Well, to me the Tumbler looks like something that somebody wrecked and then unsucessfully tried to glue back together. Like a heap of scrap yard metal put on wheels, with no sense of style. Though it also depends on what your sense of style is, I guess. Anyway, the old one was supposed to work in a fantasy world and it doesn't actually have a place in the real world - so comparing it to real world items is pointless. It still looks better than the other one, though.

First, I don't like Star Trek that much to be a fanboy. I like around half of everything they ever made, if I think about it. I was just trying to explain why it is normal that people who are used to the old Star Trek, who expect certain things, to over-analyze the new movie. Second, I agree with you, Yaaa. And Lost is a great example. Imagine that years from now, they start reimagining Lost in a new movie. Of course old fans will start over-analyzing each aspect of the movie, while younger people will think "meh, fanboys". Star Trek is obviously far from Lost, but some parts of it were well-thought and researched and people who are used to this attention to details will complain when it lacks. But I agree, there should be a limit.

There is a difference between "fiction" and "hard sci-fi" or "speculative fiction", which, arguably, Star Trek used to have a close connection to. Some Star Trek aspects used to be as accurate as possible, by using scientific consultants on the show. So, even if you don't care, people who looked at Star Trek as speculative fiction might notice certain things and care about them. Maybe the new movie will be a fun space-opera without much grounding in reality or possibility. But you shouldn't blame people for over-analyzing the movie, considering what they were used to in the past.

"It's just a movie" should never be considered an argument. It's like saying that movies are supposed to be dumb and inaccurate and you should never try to analyse anything that you see in a movie. And I don't agree with that. Also, this isn't a Michael Bay movie, it's Star Trek, which used to be a thinking man sci-fi. So people using reason to analyse various aspects of it should come as no surprise. In this case, I would say that it's an interesting observation, but I don't agree that it couldn't be possible. New materials and new architecture principles could make it possible.

When discussing movies, in a context like this one, it should be obvious that "Americans" refers to "American studios". Just like when talking international politics, "Americans" usually means "American government". So stop being so sensitive about it. Also, if you look at Asian/European cinema, foreigners DO have better ideas than Hollywood, or execute them better. Horror movies are probably the best example; Americans have almost forgot how to make a good one.
