After hearing last week about G.I.V.E. Act. I did some research & found site www.govtrack.us On that site I found section 6104 making "volunteering" mandatory. I started blogging on AOL to some I know supported Obama but knew they wouldn't like 6104. Site has a Q & A section, & many of these bloggers used it. By Thursday afternoon 6104 was "officially removed" from bill & a "discussion" to be set on forming a commitee to review 6104 for another time. By Friday "no commitee will be formed." When bill passed section 6104 was not in it. Still don't like the bill, but at least no longer "mandatory." And wondering if turning loose all those irritated bloogers on gov. site helped.

Heard Glenn on FOX last nite. He mentioned "volunteer" bill. It is HR 1388, I have read the WHOLE thing. At issue is Section 6104: Section 6104 of The Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education Act requires that a commission be established to investigate, “Whether a workable, fair, and reasonable mandatory service requirement for all able young people could be developed, and how such a requirement could be implemented in a manner that would strengthen the social fabric of the Nation and overcome civic challenges by bringing together people from diverse economic, ethnic, and educational backgrounds.” As of yesterday it was removed from the bill, with a "discussion" of wether or not to form a commiteee to look into adding it back, in an amended form.

Jbyrd....more support than the media will report. KFI, John and Ken radio show 3-6-pm in L.A., hosted a Tea Party on 3-7-09. According to the Fullerton Police, aprox. 15,000 peolpe were there, yet CBS, NBC, and ABC (were called) wouldn't send camera crews because they "didn't cover radio show promotions." I was there and had to park a 1/4 of a mile away, and could hear the crowd. People took the train, chartered buses, some from a far as Ventura and San Diego. John and Ken are game for another Tea Party if they can be conviced people will show. They get ratings, which is fine with me, and we get them to organize it and at least radio coverage.

I was at a Tea Party 3-7-09 organized by local radio show KFI, John and Ken. They started because of the tax hikes here in CA. There an estimated 15,000 people there. I could hear it a 1/4 of a mile away. We couldn't get ANY of the major networks to cover it. People were calling from the rally. ABC said they couldn't be "bothered" to cover a "promotion" for a radio show. No one expected the L.A. Times to show....They were too busy writing a story about a week old "rally" in Oregon (some "Green people") with about 50 people in attendance. KFI planning another Tea Party and I found, through Meetup.com, a local group of 9-12 Project people. Question? How do we get heard if the media won't show? The only reason people in Southern Calif. know about the March 7th Tea Party is that a radio show hosted it.

Dave....while not "godless" myself (and not quite sure where I fit since I don't believe in any "organized" church.) I agree with what you have written. You are correct in you observation of AnonLiberals. I think Anon is more interested in imposing their "disbeliefs" on others than dealing with the issues at hand. Perhaps Anon's goal is like the current administrations, "slight of hand", focus on something other than what the government is doing. I admit I fell for it regarding "separation of church and state" issue. Will not engage with Anon again.

The exact words do matter. The words used, were used to "impose" the beliefs of Atheists over the "beliefs" of other religions. Instead of allowing both to exist. Darwinism is taught, but not Creationism. Either both should be taught or neither. In another thread you were argued with another when they used words "meaning the same" thing, but slightly different than you meant.

Jefferson didn't use that phrase. Separation of Church and State - The Metaphor and the Constitution "Separation of church and state" is a common metaphor that is well recognized. Equally well recognized is the metaphorical meaning of the church staying out of the state's business and the state staying out of the church's business. Because of the very common usage of the "separation of church and state phrase," most people incorrectly think the phrase is in the constitution. The phrase "wall of separation between the church and the state" was originally coined by Thomas Jefferson in a letter to the Danbury Baptists on January 1, 1802. His purpose in this letter was to assuage the fears of the Danbury, Connecticut Baptists, and so he told them that this wall had been erected to protect them. The metaphor was used exclusively to keep the state out of the church's business, not to keep the church out of the state's business.

Straight from the Bill of Rights-don't see the words separation of church and state????
