It cannot be an indefinite amount of time. I have received unemployment benefits. The funds run out, so you cannot just rely on it forever. Knowing that is great incentive to get your ass out there and find a way to make ends meet somehow. The best incentive to get someone back to work is for any financial assistance to be temporary.
