People act like that. They rarely have their acts together and they express their love in odd ways because, let's face it, we're odd, the whole human lot of us. Aurora loves Emma in her own crazy, misguided way but her daughter knows it, swims in it, it allowed her to be everything kind and tolerant and genuine. She was the parent in many ways. Life is meandering and rarely follows the course we expect it to and sometimes cancer gets thrown into the mix, just like the script of the movie. And sometimes Dad isn't capable of raising the kids and there isn't really a happy ending but we dust ourselves off, make the best of it and continue living. There was nothing false about this movie and that's what appeals to me so strongly. And why it deserved the recognition it received.
