I note many poor persons wanting to better themselves have succeeded. They drive better cars than me, wear better clothes, have more kids who wear better clothes than my kids. Why did I have serve in the military, educate myself, pay off students loans, and teach for 25 years to have less than they do? Maybe they have some champion on their side in Washington.

Yep, Chavez is physically attractive. We know hit-and-runners have no morals or regard for others, so it's a safe bet such a low-life would have no qualms at trading on being a hottie to coax "friends" to become criminals so cute li'l Ashley wouldn't have to face the consequenses. If she gets jail time, look out, jailors. You, too could lose your freedom for an evil hottie.

I think Tundra Tuniq must be the writer's planet of origin. Welcome to Terra (AKA the earth). To get a real idea of what Portland police do, see Grimm, the first season.

But specifically, what the law enforcement agencies are issued in the case of Ms. Lavelle is a BOLO (be on the lookout). They don't really suspend other duties and quit writing tickets and ignore bar fights and burglaries. Being aware of a non-criminal citizen who may need help is just one of thousands of duties police on patrols take care of daily.

Live long and prosper!

[E]ndanger other's what? If you mean others as a group, not possessive, we are already endangered by the law-breaker. Johnston was already out-of-control and a public menace. If there ever was such a law (and not just a bad policy) it allowed crooks and speed punks to roar away and laugh. It's crazy to think they suddenly stop driving like maniacs because the police have to stop. Any damages (not damage's) are caused by the criminal, not the police.

Larry H. Johnston? Just a guess. Bad decisions are like not wearing shoes where there might be glass or swimming while wearing your hearing aids. Repeatedly endangering lives is criminal, and cousin Darrell needs jail time and driving privileges removed forever.

Trigger-happy cop shot people twice; may shoot again soon! Giant spider from Australia unhurt by lawn mower! Japan giving Oregon crabs! Panic! Panic! Sensationalize! Yours truly, KATU and Chicken Little

Oh, yeah, totally irresponsible journalism, but what's new? Ugly spiders need love, too. On the other hand, both spiderchicks, Amber Kincaid and Kristie Reddick, are super cute. Thanks for the videos of the ladies.

So no one wants to incur the wrath of the political-correctness police by calling the weapon what it is--a tomahawk? I wonder is high schools will lose state and federal funding if they keep the word in their dictionaries.

Actually, mon ami, your question does beg the question ("to beg the question" means to sidestep the issue--to misdirect--not to ask anything). No surprise the saying is misunderstood, because the answer to "how many officers does it take?" is obvious. These days when suicides want to take many people with them, the answer is it may take as many police as possibe to stop a slaughter. Funny how Monday morning quarterbacks are always a day late.

As a descendant of the people of Troy, as a person concerned about computer viruses, and as a long-time user of a particular brand of prophylactics, I am deeply offended that a high school should defame my heritage and favorite activities by sullying the name Trojan. I'm going to sue; I just can't figure where to start.
