The problem is that it will burn, whether we light it off, or Mother Nature does. January 2006, the Plainview Fire burned 2,700 acres (basically everything north of 72 and west of 93 up to the foothills on the west and the cement plant at the north). East of 93, that fuel is unburned.

What happened to the atmosphere? The answer is obvious. The molten core created a magnetic field, like ours on earth. Unlike the earth, Mars was not hit by a massive object, which knocked our moon loose and warmed the molten core considerably. So, Mars molten core cooled and solidified. Once it did, there was no more magnetic field, and no more protection from the solar wind. That blew the Martian atmosphere away.

The house was built in 1899. It is 115 years old. Haven't the County Commissioners every heard of "grandfathering". It was built long before the lot size regulations were even written.

About three quarters of the firemen in this country are volunteers. Almost all of the responders in the foothills are volunteers. Neighbors volunteering to help each other. This is so sad.

It is long past time to legalize all drugs. I don't use them, and have no desire to use them. 1) If drugs are legal, purity and dosage will be standardized, just as they are with whiskey. 2) If drugs are legal, there won't be the price premium, and no need for addicts to steal to finance their habit. 3) Since Nixon declared the "War on Drugs" the US has gone from 200 people incarcerated per 100,000 to 750 people per 100,000. This is a ridiculous cost to our society, much worse than the costs of drug use. No other major country has more than 250 people per 100,000 incarcerated. 4) The price premium of illegal drugs funds both gangs and organized crime. The quickest way to stop gang violence is to legalize drugs.

Douglas County is figuring it out. Vouchers let parents pick the system that works best for their child. Sure, there are some kids who will benefit from longer time in school. Some will not. Government shoves a "one-size-fits-all" solution down everybody's throats, and it never works well. Entrusting the education of our children to the same people that run the DMV and the Post Office is insanity.
