The 'Ropolitans : Lineup for series finale in LA; Murphy done in LF

Wow! So, basically, if Murphy can't show he can play a position that he's never played before and has been auditioning for during warmups and Jerry has been starting Reed instead, he's done. Back to AAA for him if he doesn't play well.

actually, now that i think about it, he's not really even a classic DH because he has no power. he'd fit in a system that overvalues OBP (Toronto, A's, et al)

the thing is darknova is that his defense isn't going to improve at AAA. it's not going to improve with the mlb club. it's not going to improve. he has been an awful fielder his entire life. he is the classic DH. now, maybe he could play first, maybe. and, maybe it makes sense to get him work at first at AAA, but he is hitting over .300 in the bigs. this is a tough situation for the mets: either grin and bear it and wait for him to move to first next year or look to trade him or send a .300 hitter to the minors...

the mets just continue to find ways to lose games. man, i want to stay positive, but it's getting tougher by the game. after the last two seasons, i just can't tell myself to ignore the same old signs of trouble and relax because it's early.

MetsBlog.com : Note: 100 Men Left on Base

have the mets had trouble scoring? yes. is it said that when reyes gets on base, the mets do very well? yes. only 3 of his hits have come with 2 outs? yes. what does the fact that it's early have anything to do with me pointing to a trend and saying that it's interesting. 12 games is only 12 games, yes. does that make it not a trend? no. i do think it's interesting how the guy that is the sparkplug for this team is getting on base 40.4% of the time and scoring only 26% of the time when he usually gets on base less (35.8%) and scores more often. I was also just pointing toward the fact that the struggles this offense has had to plate runners is actually far worse than we all say considering the success of Reyes (and Murphy). All valid points for thought.

Food for thought: Jose Reyes has scored 26% of the time he has reached base this year (including homers). Last year, he scored 41% of the time (including homers). He has only played 7.5% of the games he played last year, but that is still rather startling. Making matters worse, his OBP this year is .404 vs. .358 last year. So, he's getting on more often and scoring less.

honestly, i don't see how a sports psychologist isn't a part of the training staff at this point. it's so obvious the problem isn't with talent, but rather what's between the ears. I will say this: this is getting very tired, very quickly.
