YES. THIS. So many "friendships" I thought were lifelong but were actually intricately tied to this precise feeling.
I am so sorry and so ANGRY that this happened to you! Please take extra good care of yourself, for me, as I would like to give you a hug/high five/solidarity nod and immediately escort you to the nearest vending machine and/or bar.
This is the part about the movie that made me cry the hardest: watching Rey DO ALL THE THINGS and thinking about all the girls who get to grow up with that in their mainstream culture. They don't have to LOOK for her, she'll be there. Being badass.
This past week I had an insanely frustrating and upsetting social engagement with my show-offy, rude, inappropriate, tempestuous, short-tempered, almost-NHL dad and then I got home and read Patrick O'Sullivan's account of his childhood and that under-the-skin anger, like you can SEE how short the fuse is? Well, I sobbed all night long. I was not abused and in no way do I mean to conflate my childhood with the horror show O'Sullivan describes, but I FEEL YOU on echoes.

They were Dark Rooms by Lili Anolik and The Half Brother by Holly LeCraw! Sorry for spoilers, anyone who might be planning to read those books.
I read two (2!) books this summer that ended up being about half-siblings having sex. At least in one, they turned out to NOT be half-siblings, but only after one had spent half the book tortured over whether or not he should tell the other.
My god. Things I didn't know I wanted to see, but BOY did I want to see them.
