She got 7 years. She's currently in a women's prison in Gig Harbor. I worked with her a long time ago. http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20110103/NEWS01/...

It's too bad they couldn't install that special device on ALL cars that you have to breathe in for it to start. If a sober person blows in it for a drunk person, they would get the same punishment as the drunk driver for "aiding in drunk driving."

Take these kids away before they end up dead. MRSA is no joke and takes heavy IV antibiotics to fight. The mother can't feed her baby but I be she can still afford her smokes and beer.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Wash, Guardsmen spark breastfeeding debate | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Break

C'mon you probably had your momma's breast in your mouth in public as an infant too. When your baby is hungry it is your parental duty to take care of that child's hunger regardless of where you are (or what you happen to be wearing) without regard to what other people may think. Why should feeding a child be private? Perhaps we should start raising hell about animals feeding their young too, right? A child's well-being should be a parent's priority. What is so disgusting about a mother naturally feeding her baby? This is what breasts were created for; they weren't meant to be a sexual object. If you are one of those that see this as sexual in nature (comparing it to pornography) then you're sick in the head and need some serious help. There is absolutely nothing sexual about a baby and their mother.

Agreed. We don't know the mother's situation, but there were other places she could've dropped them off at. It could've been a church, a police station/fire dept, hospital, etc. At least this way, they would've had a warm place and food in their bellies. All she ended up doing was puting them in harms way.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Bothell man says terminally ill wife asked him to shoot her | Local & Regional | Seattle News, Weath

Did he forget that Washington passed the law where someone can choose "death with dignity?" I had a co-worker whose husband was also terminally ill with brain cancer. He had a doctor that prescribed him the pills and after a night of spending time with his close family and friends he was ready for the deadly cocktail that made him fall asleep forever. It's sad that this man had to make this decision to put his wife out of her misery, but other options are available and he would not be sitting in jail right now. Perhaps we don't have the entire story and maybe he couldn't find a doctor that would prescribe this.?. Who knows.

I don't understand the process/rules of medical marijuana because I never bothered to look into it. I guess my question would be, if someone tested positive and they had a legitimate prescription, wouldn't they just have to prove that they were prescribed it? I used to conduct urine drug screens and if anyone popped positive for narcotics they would just have to supply proof of a prescription to the MRO (medical review office) and that would be the end of it; no big deal. I wonder if the same goes for marijuana?

That's what I was thinking. I knew what I was getting myself into when I signed up for a job that required drug testing. I had nothing to worry about so it didn't bother me. Like you said, it would be a requirement to receive those benefits. Just like it's a requirement to get scanned at the airport, or a requirement to pass a test to get your license or a requirement for a background check for certain jobs. No one has a problem with those issues; (maybe with the exception of the airport x-raying you because of the radiation) but how is making drug testing a requirement for welfare any different than the requirements I mentioned above?

*sigh* Wow, really? I think you're the only one that seems to be confused here being you're the only one that keeps going back and forth with me on this one. The long response is a product of having to dissect my previous comments for you since you didn't seem to be understanding as to what I was trying to say. I tried to be civil and respect opinions but I'm done beating a dead horse. I'm gonna go ahead and be the grown-up here by not throwing insults back at you.
You:"Why are you people confusing Federal Social Security with State welfare? They are NOT the same think!" Me:"I wasn't talking about Social Security; my opinion is about welfare." That was my answer to your comment. What I meant by that, is that my posts haven't been about SS therefore there was no confusion. I know the difference between that and welfare. I was simply telling Mr Toadaway4 that he should receive his SS benefits (being that was what his post was about) as he has paying into them all of his working life. He stated that he wouldn't have minded if he had to submit to testing to receive his benefits regardless of if he was talking about SS or welfare. When I said,"You don't want to see all your hard work be wasted on someone's drug habit."? I was reverting back to the original topic of welfare. I really didn't think it was going to be that confusing to read and comprehend. I see this whole topic as a matter of processes and requirements. Just like we're required to have our stuff scanned @ the airport, like we're required to submit bloodwork and/or urine to see if we qualify for some life insurances, like we're required to pass a test to get a license, or required to pass a background check to work with children, etc. No one complains about those, so why is drug testing such a big deal? I see people on here stating if we start drug testing people to receive welfare benefits then we should test people who smoke, drink, or eat unhealthy because it contributes to an unhealthy lifestyle. The difference is neither of those are illegal. No one wants to fund illegal habits unless they participate in them. If drugs were ok, then this topic wouldn't even exist.

I wasn't talking about Social Security; my opinion is about welfare. Toadaway4 may have been talking about his SS benefits. I was simply telling him he should get it as he's been paying into it. Then I expressed how I don't want money I worked for to be wasted on a someone's illegal habits. I'M talking about working my a$$ off and paying into the welfare system for those people (obviously not all people who are on it) who potentially abuse the system or use it on drugs. Not ONCE HAVE I EVER mentioned that I thought EVERYONE abused the welfare system (AGAIN, I am not talking about SS, being that's not what the article is about). Read my posts. I am perfectly fine w/ welfare being used on what's it was created for. I am NOT fine w/ someone abusing it when I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. You're allowed to have your opinion let others have their own w/o slamming them for it!

Agreed. You don't know how you'll react, but by resisting, the manager put the rest of the employees in danger. All he accomplished was that he pi$$ed the robber off even more; the robber could've panicked and taken someone else out. He's fortunate that one of his employees had the opportunity to call the police before this situation escalated into a possible murder.

Exactly, thank you. Like I said in my original post, it's great that we have a program for those that truly need these benefits; I'm glad it's there. I don't mind if it's spent on bills, children's expenses, housing or food, but I don't want to be funding someone's drug habit, period. I (along with the rest of the working class) work too darn hard for that. It's no different for an employer who doesn't want to pay someone so they can support their drug habit while being a liability to their company. **That was a reference to my (previous) "stupid argument" of employers requiring drug tests vs. welfare testing BTW.** Some employers can and will require testing beyond the pre-employment phase. If it doesn't cost you anything and you're not worried about a positive result, why should you care if you're required to pee in a cup? I would submit to a test every single day if that was what was required of me to keep my job to earn my check. Why should it be any different for a welfare recipient?

I don't see how having to submit to a drug test is necessarily invading privacy. I have to take a drug test for my job; is that invading my privacy? If I have nothing to worry about, then it shouldn't be an issue. Bottom line is: Drugs are ILLEGAL. My employer doesn't want me if I use them; as a taxpayer I don't want my hard earned money to support someone else's ILLEGAL habit. I doubt there's enough money or staffing to micro-manage recipients to keep track of their spending habits. Perhaps lawmakers should listen to people (after all, didn't they promise to do that during elections) and consider our suggestions. I'd be curious to see how this all pans out.

I don't see anything unconstitutional to require welfare recipients to pass a drug test to receive benefits. It doesn't mean that everyone assumes that these people are using the money for drugs. I believe that there are plenty of people that are truly in need of these benefits and it's great that we have a program in place to assist with that. HOWEVER, why shouldn't you have to pass a drug test to collect a welfare check when I have to pass one to earn it for you?
