Bill is by far my favourite modern companion, but I dislike how many people seem to like her better than Clara simply because she "knows her place". After all the misogynistic complaints about the show turning into "Clara Who" during the last two seasons, I find it a bit iffy when people praise the student-teacher dynamic of Doctor and Bill and the fact that we're back to having a companion who is not the Doctor's equal. But like I said, I love Bill and like Mark, I'm so happy that her queerness is actually relevant to the plot the same way that Amy's relationship with Rory or Clara's relationship with Danny was.

And speaking of Doctor Who and queerness, this as good place as any to share one of my absolute favourite stories of Peter Capaldi meeting with a fan:
(no spoilers for the show)

All of a sudden he seems to be having a lot more fun and remarks like, "I normally hardly pay attention when other people are talking" sound very different in tone to the kinds of things he came out with in Series 8.

It's called character development ;) S8 Doctor came straight from the horrors of Trenzalore, S9 Doctor had been changed by his travels with Clara, Husbands... Doctor had been relieved of his memories of Clara's death and what he did to bring her back, Mysterio... Doctor has just spent 24 years on Darillium, and F10 Qbpgbe vf ntnva arneyl n praghel byqre naq jvfre. One of my main issues with Eleven was specifically that there's hardly difference in his personality before and during Trenzalore, even though he's spent a 1000 years at war.

I have no idea what prompted this shift.
Lack of Scottish people to be around is my guess. In my experience people's accents tend to soften the longer they're away from their hometown (or the company of people who share their accent). Or possibly it was a conscious choice, considering how much grief people gave Capaldi about his accent being "incomprehensible".

Based on the behind the scenes interviews on the bluray set, I would argue that they were absolutely aiming for Christopher Reeve era of superheroes rather than the current bunch. Capaldi in particular seems very dismissive of the more realistic superheroes movies of current day.

"Doctor Misterio" is actually what the show is called in Mexico, and Moffat apparently decided to use the phrase in an episode because Capaldi really loved saying it.

Possibly an unpopular opinion, but I think that this is one of the funniest episodes of all of modern Who.

edit to add: Also, I have to agree with Mark that Capaldi has the best facial expressions. Twelve's reaction when he finds out that Grant is a superhero and a nanny is hilarious.

Thanks for these! I've been meaning to ask for them here since Capaldi is my favourite as well.

All I have to say about this episode is that it has one of my favourite little moments on B5: Delenn's cold "End this" as they take down the drakh mothership.

I remember when I first saw this episode in 1999 (only five days after the "This day in history" date in the show, haha) I thought it was a nice episode, but not really believable. The propaganda was so over the top and the editing so obvious that no-one could really fall for it. The last few times I've watched it, I've found it an eerily accurate portrayal of social media and some of today's "news outlets", and I feel like I owe JMS an apology. It's like the terrorist in "Convictions": things that were ridiculous back in the 90's are scarily realistic today...

Mine too. I still get chills when Londo says "Actually, now that you mention it..."

I've often wondered if Steven Moffat ever watched B5, because there were a lot little moments in Doctor Who during his era that reminded me of B5. For example the Twelfth Doctor's "Immortality isn't living forever, immortality is everyone else dying." always reminded me of Lorien's speech (and him telling Clara "Do you think I care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference" reminded me of Sheridan's "Could I love that much and not forgive").
