KOMO - Seattle, WA : Amazon introduces lending library for Kindles | Technology | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking

I do not know enough about the nook to speak of the negatives of them. I can't talk about battery life because I do not know how long it lasts in a nook. I do however know that in my kindle the battery life is fantastic. I picked my kindle over all of the others because it serves my needs. I wanted an ereader. It does that perfectly. I think that as the new generations come along there is evidence that amazon listens to their customers and tries to put that into their product. They also try to do it better than anyone else. This just proves the old saying that you can't please every one. I won't be slamming the nook because I think it is a good product. I had to choose one and I think that I chose the best product for me. When, eventually, I get my kids their ereaders it will be kindle. I am happy with the product that I have and everyone that has seen it speaks highly. So- I made a good purchase. It sounds like you did too, for you.

Don't forget the archives! Any book that is downloaded from amazon is kept in the archives. If ever your kindle is lost or stolen or damaged (heaven forbid) you do not have to re-purchase any of those books. They are there waiting for you. Which would be a little bit of a worry- as I have over a thousand books on mine and a few hundred in the archives. By the way- almost all of those books were free. I know people that are happy with their nooks and that is great. I think it might be like a ford and chevy kind of thing- but I for one wouldn't trade my kindle for anything.

HGTV Design Star : Goodbye, Cathy

Both my husband and I said that if she stayed any longer we were going to find something else to watch. Just couldn't stand her any more. I am glad that I can look forward to watching again I am wondering if she watches her own show? If there was any behavior that no one should be proud of- it was hers.

Just popping in to let you know that he wasn't isolated. He had neighbors "spitting distance" from his home. You really can't tell from this story but he lived in an RV and Mobile park. Kind of scarey to think that someone would do that to a person with neighbors that close. I hope they catch the person responsible soon.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Amazon says e-book sales surpass printed books | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking News | KOMO

I agree about some of the prices and the lending. I think that it does show that many of the publishers are just a little greedy. Since I have discovered the free books I don't have a problem with that. There are a lot of us that have a sort of protest going by refusing to buy books over a certain amount with the ceiling being around 10.00. I think it would be interesting to know how they figure out pricing. I have also found some of the books that I wanted were more expensive than paper back- most of those being much older books that I just wanted to replace without taking up room. From what I under stand, the watiting list for the new release ebooks at the library are longer than the regular books. I read that the publishers have a set limit (or are trying to) for each of the library books, too. Which I find interesting.

Although I can only comment on the Amazon Kindle, I do have a couple corrections to your statement. If you buy a book from Amazon they keep it in the archives and if your reader is damaged or lost or upgraded you can download it again with no problem. You can also read it on multiple devices at the same time so you and your spouse can read the same book at the same time. You are correct, though, and cannot read from the same device at the same time- but I use mine enough that I wouldn't want to share anyway. Oh- what I meant to say is that I love my spouse and would want him to have his own;) As long as the publisher allows you to lend books you can do that also and now even the kindle will be able to borrow from the library. There are also many many free books- from old classics to new indie authors on their way up. I have over 350 books on my kindle and almost all of them were free. I have tried a lot of new authors that I would not have tried if I had not had the opportunity to try one of their books for free. I have several friends that didn't think that they would like ereaders either but have changed their minds since they have seen mine.

I don't know if all libraries do this- but I had to give the ok before my kids could check out movies without me but they did let me know that it was because they do not track the content of the movies. It is ultimately up to the parents. That was until the kids were 18 and could get their own card. Also- kids are not allowed to check out from the adult section until a certain age anyway.

KOMO - Seattle, WA : Facebook bullying victim: \'I kept crying the whole time\' | Seattle News, Weather, Sports, Breaking

We not only know passwords we friend our kids and made it part of the fun to be involved. Several of our kids friends "friended" us, too. So we were not just checking up on them- we were keeping up. It worked for us. If they talk about music we can go check it out and they can tease us because we like it or we don't. The same with books and movies. It is just being involved in more of our kids lives. They get to talk about all of the "happening" things and not be treated like an oddity because they don't have an account. They also don't sneak an account that you have no idea what is going on. My kids had friends that were examples of both.

Really, I think that books make a house feel homey and one of the first things that I put up to feel at home are my books. That said- I am way past out of room for books and my husband is complaining. I have arthritis in my hands and an injured rotator cuff- I am not whining just showing why a kindle is easier to hold. I love my kindle and don't even notice that I am packing over two hundred books every where I go. Most of which were free- I love that part:) I still love to look up and see the books on my shelves. I also love that I do not have to beg for new shelves.

I do know what you mean, but for Amazon customers there is an archive that keeps track of all of the ebooks that you buy there. If you have a problem with your kindle or just upgrade you never lose your books- you just download them again. I had the same concern because some of my favorite books are like old friends that sometimes you just need to revisit. Kind of like comfort food. Many of the kindle owners that I have talked to are re-readers. I also like the fact that there are no more arguements with my husband on where I am going to put my latest book purchase as the kindle holds up to 3500 books. I, too, like the feel of "real" books and will probably still buy some- but the arthritis in my hands make my kindle my new best friend:) Another perc is that I have tried authors that I probably never would have before - indie authors and such. With good results. There are many free ebooks out there including some old classics that I now will have the opportunity to read- free! However we read- the joy is in the story. Happy reading:)

We learned those things from our parents, that was before the economy and lifestyles became such as to have to have both parents working. I am not slamming working moms, either, but it used to be the parents that spent the most time with their kids now it is daycare or school and neither one of those are conducive to learning those types of things. Sad but true.

That was before cell phones were life support and they ruled our life. I don't know how many times that I have told my kids, when hands are full or in the middle of something important- when the phone rings and they try to drop everything saying "I gotta get that" - "Um- no- you don't. That thing doesn't run our life. We have voice mail". You are right- it is sad. For the family and the other driver, too.

He might not deserve to live another day (and I do wholeheartedly agree), but a promise is a promise. Like it or not. My parents taught me that I am only as good as my word and if I give my word to make darn sure that I mean it. I expect no less from my government. As I said before- like it or not. The only good to come out of this is that many more families got their closure than would have with out this "promise". So- that is what I will focus on.
