Sadly, there are some MPs who stir up the trolls by using intemperate language and by casting anyone who disagrees with them (and I'm not talking here about other MPs or other politicians) as idiots and blockers of progress. Some MPs think it's OK to ridicule constituents who disagree with them and to speak about them publicly in aggressive terms. It's no surprise, then, when members of the public follow suit and the debate becomes one of intimidation, intolerance and aggression rather than one of reasoned argument. My local MP has definitely fallen into this trap in some of his remarks about saving the (now closed) airport at Manston and his dismissal of anyone who offers an alternative view. The debate now seems to be getting more and more vicious. Oh, and I'm not bleating about anything he has said about me, in case you think that this is special pleading!
