I don't need to preserve the baseband since I have a factory unlocked phone, I just need to jailbreak. I already have a jailbroken 3GS with 3.0.1. Now I want to upgrade to 3.1. Currently redsn0w doesn't support 3.1 so I would have to create a custom firmware using PwnageTool. All the times I had to do this procedure I always restored using the custom firmware, as every guide suggests. Can I simply use option + Update and select the custom firmware, or do I have to necessarily restore? Restoring is kind of a pain...
