Equestria Daily : Story: Dancing on Silver Strings

The same can be said about almost any story -- not just in fanfaction, but in general fiction, practically everything has been done before. Really, you could just say "Oh look, another story" and you wouldn't be incorrect, just being even more needlessly non-intelligently critical of the matter. Also, to be a bit facetious, I'm going to reply to your comment with: Oh look, another uninspired "oh look" comment that fails, once again, to provide any real insight, and simply comes off as boring and unintelligent (which is no crack at your actual intelligence, but merely pointing out that it seems all too clear you didn't put much effort into this thought).

Thank Celestia am I glad they dropped things like athletics and the works when the went from Oblivion to Skyrim -- I'd be trying to hold out on leveling up and then I'd level up because I jumped over a log or something. -_-

Mmmm, nostalgia, when I rave about that thing I liked but go back to it and it's not quite as good as I thought it was. :P Anyways, I do like story, so maybe I'll got back and try to play Morrowind some time.

But if I have to mod my game heavily just to enjoy it, there's definitely a problem. Oh, and I also don't own a gaming computer, so, last I checked, I cannot mod (or at least, easily mod) games on my PS3 -- modding is sweet and all, but I generally judge a game by how it stands without mods.

I never got to play Morrowind, but I own Oblivion, and I have to ask: Why do you love it? I sort of enjoyed it, but it always just felt lack luster and clunky, not to mention the fact that I never felt invested in any of the characters or the story; this was all before Skyrim, so I wasn't just saying it was a worse Skyrim (of course, now, that is my opinion). I'm not saying you're not allowed to like it (that kind of behaviour is best left to ignorant ass-hats in youtube comments), but I'm simply inquiring as to why you like a game that I've encountered so much "meh" about -- everyone I've talked to about Oblivion either flat out disliked it or always said, "It's okay, but it could be way better., and that was basically my sentiment. THOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUGH, I've heard a few choice compliments about Morrowind, so I'm curious about that one.

Equestria Daily : Twilight Sparkle Gatling Gun

-facehoof- I have played all the Resistance games and own 1+2, so I don't know why they didn't jump to my mind. I agree: they're definitely my favourite shooters. I cannot recall exactly how I felt about the 3rd, but me and my friend played the whole thing together and definitely did enjoy it. I also own a digital copy of inFamous from after the server hack thing. :P It was a good game, and definitely has some replay value -- haven't tried the 2nd one yet, but I hear it's good.

I agree and disagree: Killzone 2 was fun as hell, but Killzone 3 was a mess and ruined everything the franchise built (in my opinion) -- I don't think Killzone 3 should have gotten any praise. Uncharted 2 was great, but I never played 1, and have yet to play 3 -- at least for 2, Uncharted deserved the praise it got. God of War is... eh, it's fun, but it never made it anywhere near my top 10. I can see why people enjoy the games, but I honestly don't think it's worth the hype/praise. I cannot remember any other hyped Sony exclusives off the top of my head, but I know that, in general, I like PS3 exclusives over Xbox ones -- I'm not really sure that really matters to the discussion, but it's sort of related.

I hope I wasn't the only one that saw this (when it first came up on fimfic, for me) and said, "Oh shoot, this is going to trick me and pretend not to be sad at first, and then come out of left field and punch me in the heart." I read it anyways, because I'm a sucker for well written stories that make me sad (and I know I'm not the only one); was definitely very pleased with this one.

Equestria Daily : Top 10 Pony Videos of May

Whoa whoa whoa... let me get this straight: Simply because someone did an AMAZING job at crafting a wonderfully well done animation/video, you want it destroyed forever because it personally bothers you and could affect a single child (or, possibly more like her, but the number is still really small)? So, you're saying that everyone else that enjoys it and likes it so much should miss out on it for the sake of your personal tastes and the vague sense of protection you'd give this child? Now, I'm sure there are more people without YouTube accounts that like the video, but the likes for that video are currently 2,257; so, basically, you're saying that for the sake of your personal tastes and *possible* protection of this child (let me stress the fact that, just because it exists, doesn't mean she's necessarily ever going to see it) supersede the views and opinions of 2,257 (and likely more) people? Seems a tad on the selfish and unreasonable side. I commend you for wanting to protect this child, and honestly, I'm with you on the fact that she shouldn't watch it, but saying you outright HATE it? That's brash and foolish, my friend. I hate war, famine, disease, murder, and rape - only; those are the only things I currently believe are worth the level of the word "hate", because they take and/or ruin lives on daily, often even hourly, basis. I know it's cliche to say, but "hate is a strong word". You're spending your energy hating something that was crafted with hard work and passion to show their support and adoration of a television show? The video preaches no evil messages (none that the creator intended, I assume), shows no obscenely gory on pornographic scenes, and, to restate, is wonderfully crafted. So, again, I do want to say I have nothing against your concern for this child, and for any others like her, but placing this in the "hate" category is going much too far, in my opinion. I understand how it would effect this child, and I'm not trying to be a heartless dick here, but remember to ask yourself, "Who does this effect?" You know when they talk about things that may not be great for certain individuals, but are for the great good? Sure, this video isn't solving world hunger or our political problems, but you're currently valuing this child (and possibly a few others) as worth more than 2,257+ other people. I understand the concern you have for her, but answer me this: Is it really right to value her so much more than at many other human beings who has rights and feelings just like you, I, and her? Would you feel proud of yourself to devoid so many other people some of their happiness, and perhaps even their inspiration, for the sake of this one child? Who know's what you individual is out there RIGHT NOW setting their self on the path to becoming an animator all because this video was the tipping point in inspiration for them?

Equestria Daily : Discussion: Different Types of Animation for FiM

Fair enough, but doesn't that just show us an age old problem again: People cannot seem to make intelligent, thought out remarks, and we have to assume what they mean, which will only lead to more confusion and anger. I read the statement as saying "I think anime as a whole is stupid", because, grammatically and literally speaking, saying that "Anime is... just plain stupid" is making a direct remark to anime being stupid as a whole, and not the style. I would have to say that making a logical assumption on a not thought out comment is generally illogical. If the person making the comment cannot properly phrase their statements, then they have to deal with people responding to the comment that they posted; I'm not going to go out of my way to try and dissect a poorly constructed comment that the author should have put the time into. Since we're discussing assumption, I'd like to put forth that my interpretation of it (the literal one) seems like the completely logical one to me, based on the fact that it's correct in a matter of being literal, and also based on my experience of people bad mouthing anime as a whole (we all know those people in high school that said things like "Anime's so gay/dumb/retarded"). As such, there's nothing really wrong with the way I replied to the comment, because it deals directly with the interpretation I deemed logical. I do commend you for trying to help mAscarie out, and trying to put forth a logical argument for him/her; you showed good points and were intelligent and unbiased about it. It's good that you just wanted to clear things up and try to make a good case, even if we don't know exactly what mAscarie was trying to say. I do hope you don't think I carry any ill will towards you or mAcarie, as it was only my intent to point out the flaws in such a foolish comment in the hopes to give some insight that would be helpful anyone that read my reply.

Equestria Daily : Discussion: Different Types of Animation for FiM

I agree with a good number of your points, especially that people's opinions are often clouded by nostalgia, and that anime can indeed often be rushed work. However, I'd like to point out that you've completely replied to the wrong comment: the comment you're replying too doesn't even exist. If you aren't following what I mean, let me explain: Not once did I ever say anything about the quality of anime, nor did I state my direct opinion on it. In fact, the vast majority of my reply was revolving around the "not to offend anyone" topic, and what should be said when you state an opinion you know people are likely to be bothered by. The only mention I made to level of quality to do with animation was when I said "intelligence is not (generally) reflected in an art style"; since this is the only mention I actually make of animation quality, you'd have to direct your entire reply to this, and, if you did, you reply would made no sense as an argument against such a statement. I'd just like to mention, that, in essence, you're defending someone incorrectly assessing a topic (applying the adjective of "stupid" to something that does not have an intelligence level). Again, this isn't to say I don't agree with your points, but I am curious: did you even read my reply to mAscarie? If you did, you'd have seen that I did not talk about actual animation quality; I did not state whether I thought anime was good or not, nor did I state my opinion on the animation style of MLP. I'm normally all for contributing thought out and intelligent points to a conversation, but when it is obvious that you're not even following the conversation (not trying to be a dick, but again, you clearly did not read/understand my reply), then I don't see what good it does to add points to the wrong conversation.

Equestria Daily : Discussion: Different Types of Animation for FiM

"Not to offend anyone, but here is my completely biased opinion that I know will offend people." You're completely entitled to your opinion, and I don't think there's anything wrong with not liking anime, but calling a style "stupid" (and without any supporting evidence) is a little foolish of you. First, let's "argue semantics" about how "stupid" refers to a level of intelligence, and since intelligence is not (generally) reflected in an art style, that kind of renders your point moot. Second, I'd just like to point out that saying "not to offend anyone" is a surefire way to let people know you're about to say something that will likely offend them; if you really want to try not to offend people (which isn't always going to work, because some people just TRY and take offense to things), say something like: "While I do not think less of anyone who disagrees with me, my opinion on the matter is..." You want to show people that you still respect their opinions, even if they're different than yours. Third, unless you're trying to get looked down upon, you should try to explain your opinion on a matter, especially if you feel that people might immediately react negatively to it (and, really, can you tell me with a straight face that you decided to post a comment calling anime stupid without any supporting evidence and NOT expect people to down-vote you? You saw it coming). Even people like me, who are open to opinions and different views, cannot really respect your opinion if you take a side that's bound to be looked down upon and don't even bother to try and make a case for yourself. Now, of course, if you're just trying to troll and/or don't really care, than everything I've said is basically for naught, but, on the chance that you're just a regular person that happened to make a somewhat foolish comment, I do hope that you can take something from my reply. Everyone's got opinions, and there's nothing inherently wrong with liking or disliking something, but realize that if you cannot make a defense for your opinions, people are just going to walk all over them, and you really have no one to blame but yourself.

The biggest reason to use FiMFiction, in all honesty, is because it's pony-specific; a lot of the time pony fanfics go completely unnoticed on dA because it's hard to find them and more people looking for specifically those fics are on FiMFiction, using the search system designed around pony stories. I like dA, but much more for the visual arts than the literary. Granted, I've seen some pretty good stories on there, but if you're writing MLP fanfics specifically, I'd highly recommend starting on FiMFiction. As SilentBelle already stated, you're very likely to get instant feedback; while I cannot guarantee the same success, in under a day of my first chapter of my first fic going up I had 10+ favs, around the same thumbs up, and 3-4 comments from other users. FiMFiction is definitely where you want to be for MLP fanfics, because, hey, it was designed SPECIFICALLY for that. :P
